    I just did the update all installed packages and the OS as well. I cannot get the bluetooth service to start.

    $ sudo systemctl start bluetooth
    Job for bluetooth.service failed. See 'systemctl status bluetooth.service' and 'journalctl -xn' for details.

    The dongle is installed

    $ hciconfig
    hci0: Type: BR/EDR Bus: USB
    BD Address: 00:19:86:00:14:49 ACL MTU: 1021:8 SCO MTU: 64:1
    UP RUNNING PSCAN
    RX bytes:2147 acl:4 sco:0 events:92 errors:0
    TX bytes:1902 acl:17 sco:0 commands:60 errors:0

    Any ideas?

      @kbocek Did you install the ps3 controller driver ? It disable the default bluetooth stack.

        Yes I did. I saw that the bluetoothd binary was not set to executable. I chmod 775 it and the service now runs. But I now see that sixad wants to control it so I don't think I'm doing this right. I just can't get this knockoff six axis controller to pair. The bluetooth dongle is running: I can see my cell phone with hcitool scan. But even with the blinking lights on the controller, it doesn't show up. "add controller" in retropie-setup just hangs.

        The controller does show up in lsusb when I directly connect it. I've tried the reset process on the controller.

          @kbocek You will need to remove the ps3 driver (If you want to use standard bluetooth devices, it sometimes works to disable ps3 driver, pair them, then re-enable). But generally sharing ps3 and standard bluetooth devices is unsupported.

            That's fine. This is a single use device. If I can get the PS3 controller working that's all that matters. I was just pointing out my phone to say the dongle is installed and working.

            I never thought to remove the retropie driver and pair first with the regular bluetooth stack and then re-enable. I will try that.
