Armored Warriors (Retroarch Bezel Overlay)
-
Hey :)
I'm a new member here and this is my first contribution to what i have seen as being one of the most amazing communities i have seen. I have been looking through the forums for a little while, getting my first Raspberry Pi, 2 weeks ago and i figured it was time to join in.
I looked around and i didn't find an overlay for one of my favorite arcade games, Armored Warriors, so i sat out to make one myself with the limited knowledge of Photoshop that i have. (I might have missed it if one has already been made).
I used UDb23's work as reference and just edited his cfg files to get my art to work and i used the Final_Arcade_NeoGeo_Horizontal arcade cabinet as a groundwork. I have tried to give credit where possible (in the cfgs). If UDb23 does not like that i used his files as a reference i will gladly take this down.

People who don't like it don't put their work on github. :-)
I'm sure @UDb23 will be happy to know that he is inspiring and encouraging other guys to create custom overlays. The only concerning is about using his work in commercial projects.
BTW: nice job on your overlay!
Cheers!

@MorbidComplex I don't personally use overlays, but you have my +1 for Armoured Warriors, one of the greatest beat 'em ups I've ever played, and also for contributing to the community. Every little bit makes the whole place just that little bit more awesome.
I also agree with @meleu, I don't think @UDb23 will mind you using his files as reference, especially if you have given proper credit.

Good game, good job on the overlay.

@meleu I'm new to all of this so i wasn't sure about the Github stuff, so i figured it wouldn't harm to present myself as humble :) And giving credit where it is due doesn't harm :D
So thank you to @UDb23 for the inspiring work :)
And thank you for the compliment @meleu :))I'm working on another overlay for one of my favorite PC Engine CD games, Kaze Kiri. Its a little harder to work with tho :)
@mattrixk I don't always use overlays either, but it is a fun project to keep me busy :)
Its one of the first Beat 'Em Ups i ever played Co-Op, so it has a special place in my heart :D And thank you for the compliment, it is very appreciated. I am very happy to be a part of this community :D@xaGe Thank you :D And i agree. Its a great game.

Well... Another useful way to spend time is learning the basics of github repositories. ;-)
This way you can contribute with new stuff (such as overlays) in many projects we run here.
Cheers!

@MorbidComplex
I love your awesome overlays for these 2 awesome games! I was just thinking we need overlays for the PC Engine CD/TGCD! I actually made my first overlay yesterday and I know it is a lot easier using @UDb23 work as a template. You should open a GitHub account to upload your overlays at. @meleu is working on a script to automate the installation of these overlays that we have made. It will grab them from our respective GitHub accounts.
https://retropie.org.uk/forum/post/60799Just ask @UDb23 @meleu or myself for help if you have any questions. Like how to setup GitHub, etc.
I'm looking forward to trying out your Kaze Kiri overlay!

Of course I'm happy to inspire and that people can use my stuff as a starting point.
@MorbidComplex
Great work ! -

Thanks @meleu, yes that's key.
We all contribute to Retropie just because it's fun and challenging , and to share things with other people that share the same passion.
It's fun but it also means significant amount of time dedicated to this.
Therefore I don't want people to make money out of other people's work. Not forgetting that we don't own any rights on copyrighted artwork so I strongly believe it would be illegal to sell, alone or as part of a "pre-configured" system.
We already see too many offers of people selling PIs with Retropie pre-installed (reminder: that IS illegal). -

@meleu I'll read up on Github when i have some free time :D It would be nice to learn about new ways to contribute :D

@backstander Thank you so much :D I love the PC Engine/TG, especially many on the CD versions, so focusing some attention there wouldn't be bad at all.
You did a great job on your overlays! They look great :D Well done.I'm gonna take some time and read up about Github when i have a moment and i'll probably come back with some questions then :D Thank you for offering to help.
As for the Kaze Kiri overlay, its taking a little more time. I wasn't happy with how i had cut some of the pieces so i'm gonna go over and polish it a little more before i release a version :D But here is a preview. I tried to keep the Manga textures intact so it looks like paper :) I also removed the CRT screen overlay, so it can be added with shaders for those that want that instead, not making it mandatory :)

@UDb23 I am happy you don't mind i used your work as the groundwork. I didn't know how to structure the files with the cfgs so i just edited yours. Added proper credit in the files :)

We already see too many offers of people selling PIs with Retropie pre-installed (reminder: that IS illegal).Oh i have no intentions on selling anything. I have seen the people selling fully stocked PI's and a naive me from the past would have thought about buying one. But i like to get hands on and tinker myself so i was introduced to the forums instead. Something i don't regret at all.
It was a wonderful gateway into the community which i doubt i would have gotten if i bought something fully ready. So with spending time reading in the forums and reading online i started to see why these people selling this stuff is negative on the community and, of course, illegal.
So no worries on my end :) I'd never want to sell what i make, i do it to spice up my own PI and share it so i can help contribute to the community and learn :D

@morbidcomplex hello, I enjoy this bezel for Armored Warriors but I cannot find it anywhere, do you still have it?
Contributions to the project are always appreciated, so if you would like to support us with a donation you can do so here.
