When I try and edit some files on retropie from winscp, a lot of the time it says i don't have permission to open a folder or save to a file.

Is there a way to get higher permissions in winscp?

I read somewhere that using sudo passwd root from terminal and then logging is as root would do this - but when i create a password using sudo passwd or sudo passwd root, that same password isn't accepted when i try to log in as root through winscp or putty.

I know I have more permissions using putty with sudo - but it's a little easier to drag and drop into winscp.

      Thanks for any help,

      Matt.
