      Haha!
One day when I worked at a small computer repair shop, this guy brought in this nasty PC that wouldn't turn on anymore asking if we could fix it. Well I took it to the work bench and I plopped it down and like 30-50 small cockroaches ran out of that thing! I also put it in a couple trash bags and put it by the dumpster out back and told the guy that it was majorly infected and that if he wanted it back, he'd better come and get it before the trash truck does.

@backstander how the first computer bug came to be was a real bug... do you remember the old windows screen saver where a cockroach would eat through your screen exposing the circuit board behind it? I need to find that now and put it on my windows 95 on my raspberry pi.

@backstander I'm glad I never had them. Your story really frightens me. Yikes.

annoyingly I have roaches in my apartment because the neighbours are less than clean.
It is incredible the places that you find them, and the speed with which they breed, just one, if you dont kill it instantly will become 30 within a week.

            i bloody hate them

In South Carolina, where I live, our roaches are abnormally large and actually have their own marketing spin to soften their image a bit. Here, they're referred to as "Palmetto Bugs", named after our state tree. The moniker is thought to have been born out the tourism trade in Myrtle beach, where hotels would put out notation cards in rooms, saying things like they are part of the landscape and going so far as suggesting that seeing one is good luck. In reality, it's near impossible to keep roaches at bay in a high foliage area where the tourists aren't exactly being on their best behavior with their trash.

I lived in Florida for a couple years and they have the largest cockroaches I have every seen. Actually I think they have the largest bugs in all of the USA. I remember seeing large millipedes with stout pincers just walking on the ground. The house I was living in at the time I had to have sprayed because the neighbors next door's house was trashed. The exterminator told me that he would never eat Chinese food in that town because he's seen the worst infections ever at one of those locations.

With it's environment, that wouldn't surprise me. From what I've always heard, Florida, South Carolina and Texas all give each other a pretty good run for their money.

@mediamogul yeah back in '88 when i was a kid a 3" cockroach ran up my arm. I was traumatized and have hated them so much because of it.

Luckily I've never had any roaches in my systems, but I did find a dead spider and its web in my SNES after opening it up for the first time in 20 years.

@itsnitro yes. I have opened several with roaches. All systems that have vents are potential roach motels. Heat and dark space. Everything they love.
