@paullew17 sorry about the stray space in the command. I'm on my phone and it wasn't easy to see.

@AlexMurphy tried deleting Addons27.db then rebooting. Did not resolve the issue.

After reboot Addons27.db is not recreated. Other ideas?

Edit: Success after performing a full update on all installed. It had been ten months
since I had updated RetroPie. Doing so did the trick.

Hi I'm having a similar issue. I downloaded the redacted read the forum rules!. It was built on Retropie 4.1. So the kodi was out of date at 16.1. I updated to the latest script and then updated Kodi. I got same issue, kodi would start to load up then kick me out.

            So i followed your recommendation.

Except there wasn't a file called Addons27.db. I had a file called Addons20.db, so i deleted this file. and i still can't get Kodi to work. I tried the following:

            1. I reboot the system - Kodi did not work, - A similar file did not come back
            2. I updated Kodi - Kodi did not work, - A similar file did not come back
            3. I removed and re-installed Kodi - Kodi did not work, - A similar file did not come back

            Any suggestions?

            Thanks,

@tmak Yes, don't use custom images with pirated stuff.

                Noted. Thanks for the advice.

I am having the exact same issue with my own image, i started working on it in Retropie 4.1. I put allot of effort into it and I don't want to have to start it from scratch.

@tmak Most likely that you have an addon incompatible with Kodi 17. You have to find what it is or remove all your settings which are in /home/pi/.kodi

Thanks Rascas. I tried your recommendation. I used sudo mc to view all files and folders in /.kodi, deleted everything i could find. Removed, rebooted, reinstalled Kodi, & rebooted. Still no luck getting it to work.

                    Any other suggestions?

Sorry about that, I'm new at these types of forums. Didn't mean to break the rules or guidelines. Thanks, i'll research on how to properly post log files.

@tmak runcommand isnt needed since kodi is started so it is not an installation problem or corrupted data. Although you arent running latest Kodi which now 17.1, and you are still running 16.1 which with latest kernels/firmaware it is know to have problems with some gamepads like the 8Bitdo NES30 Pro you.
So my advice is to update retropie scripts and then update Kodi. Since you dont seem 3rd party addons installed, it will most likely solve your problem.

I am experiencing that same issue as the original poster. Upon attempting to launch Kodi from the ports menu, the screen goes black then returns me to the ports menu. I am new to the RetroPie scene as I bought this unit from a friend of mine, so I am not sure on all the specifics. Here is what I was told about the configuration or what I am able to locate myself.

Pi Model or other hardware: 3B
Power Supply used: (If using a Pi) 5V 2A
RetroPie Version Used (eg 3.6, 3.8.1, 4.1 - do not write latest): 4.2.18
Built From: Pre made SD Image on RetroPie website
USB Devices connected: Logitech keyboard and mouse
                                  Controller used: Logitech F310
                                  Error messages received:
Log found in /dev/shm/runcommand.log (if relevant):

                                  1. Parameters:
                                  2. Executing: kodi
                                  3. /usr/lib/arm-linux-gnueabihf/kodi/kodi_v7.bin: error while loading shared libraries: libbrcmGLESv2.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Seems that something is looking in the wrong directory for Kodi. Any thoughts?

Since I am new, I apologize for not posting more information as I am not sure what information you require. Let me know what additional information you require. How do I attach log files? I downloaded the kodi log file, but was unable to attach the file. Since I saw the runcommand log is displaying "No such file or directory", I thought that may be enough to have someone assist me with troubleshooting my issue.

@firefly said in updates went wrong:

libbrcmGLESv2.so: cannot open shared object file

You have an old kernel/firmware version. Go to RetroPie-Setup -> tools or something, and run the option to "update Raspbian packages".
