No sound and blank screen outside EmulationStation
-
Ok so I've just encountered a strange problem with my Rpi 3 running Retropie. I actually ran into this issue previously and didn't know what to do so I restarted my Retropie image from scratch, but now I've got it again so I want to know how to fix it.
Up until now, everything has been working fine. Problem started just around now after I was playing around with configuring PS3 bluetooth controller (controller was working fine before, i was just editing controller config in retroarch.cfg)
First, I was having problems launching ROMs and noticed this error multiple times in console when exiting to console from Emulationstation:
"alsa lib pcm.c (snd_pcm_recover) underrun occurred"then sound stopped working completely (no item scroll sound in Emulationstation), and if I try to launch ANYTHING from Emulationstation (ROMs, kodi, retropie setup script, etc) it will just go to completely unresponsive blank screen
If I exit emulationstation (alt-f4), it goes to mostly blank screen with blinking "_" at top left corner, and screen slightly flashes from black to more black. System is also unresponsive to input in this state, however I am able to access the Pi through SSH and do everything through there as normal.
So basically my current state is Emulation Station booting and working fine (without sound) but unable to launch anything from it and exiting also goes to unresponsive blank screen. System appears to be working normally through SSH.
What logs can I check to try and diagnose the problem?? Any ideas?
Cheers

Exiting ES takes a while if you have lots of roms and you have used the scraper - see https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/FAQ#why-does-shut-down-and-reboot-take-ages
Might be another problem though too - have you tried a fresh image to rule out a hardware issue (power / cabling etc). You could post via pastebin.com or similar the output from
dmesg
and the contents of/boot/config.txt
,/var/log/syslog
,/tmp/runcommand.log
and~/.emulationstation/es_log.txt
