I've always considered switching over to FBA for Neo-Geo titles, but wondered if it was worth the time. Are there a few sticking points that make FBA a better choice for these games, such as speed or compatibility that are missing from MAME?

There's a noticeable speed difference in FBA if you're using a non-oc'd pi2. This leads me to say that FBA requires LESS cpu power to run neogeo games. On a pi3 you won't notice it. FBA is also from 2016, along with its romset. I'm sure some progress in its emulation has improved since...2003. I generally run everything I can in FBA, and whatever runs slow I fall back to FBA2012 (konami 4player games on my oc'd pi2), then MAME2003.

Good to know. I haven't taken a look at the state of FBA on RetroPie since the last updates. I might have to kick the tires a bit sometime soon.

@Deltax5 if you are talking about Plexus, yes it works, you just have to find a version (it was discontinued along time) that as/downloads the modules.

The newest is more than one year old, the thing is, it was considered "illegal" by the somebody of the xbmc foundation, despite the addon itself doesn't have any illegal content, so we stop developing it and we removed all modules. Any addon that you find with that name on the internet now, it is a copy of it with the modules readded, or broken. You have to search better.

For atari 2600 and 5200 how do I configure the controls. Is it keyboard only?

I still need a good remote for kodi

                      https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/Atari-2600#controls
                      https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/Atari-800-and-5200#controls

You configure lr-stella just like any other RetroArch core. However, the keypads and therefore all keypad games are not supported. Also, there is no option for analog control, making the paddle games pretty much unplayable. The standalone stella emulator allows for analog controls and the keypads, but the controls must be mapped manually from it's own interface. 5200 games on the atari800 emulator have full support for analog controls, keypads and trackballs, but every setting has to be made from an external text editor, as setting anything in the native GUI corrupts the preference file.

@Deltax5 said in A few questons before buying raspbarry pie3:

Yes they work if you follow what I said earlier, most of the Plexus addon versions available on the internet don't work because the modules download links are broken.

Wow i am surprised and happy how well ps1 games play on this. Every game I tried works perfect. Just wondering if there is a capability list. I am really disappointed in the neo geo emulator thou. Really wanted to play the metal slugs the first one works and kof games 98 works and MVS caos, ohh well ps1 has the metal slugs i guess.
As for the newly added Saturn I seen a youtuber posting it and it's painfully slow, not worth installing unless there is some sort of settings. REally i just want to play panzar dragoon games. As for mame mvc, some shooter and rumble fish all don't work sigh.

Im disappointed and shocked that there is no off and on switch. there is some sort of mod i see but it looks hard. DO you loose the audio jack wile doing it?

There's a newer kodi available is it supported. Is it worth manually adding it. I really don't know how gotta look it up.

@Deltax5 the metal slug games all work fine. Make sure you have good roms, the correct bios and emulator set.

Edit, actually all the games you have listed should run fine. I believe I have most of them running on fbalpha, I don't have my pi and set this up months ago so I can't check. I do know I play them all with No issues. Read up on the fbalpha emulator and required bios files, they will work.
