Installing sets of roms from my pc onto my retro pie 3. Keep getting this error when booting up my retro pie. Won't let me do anything and can't use the retro pie! Anyone ever get

Terminate called after throwing an instance of 'boost :: filesystem_error' what(): boost:filesystem:: directory_iterator: :construct: permission denied: "/home/Pi/retropie/roms/gbc/harvest moon 2 gbc

Anyone have an idea how to get passed this error? I can't do anything when the box loaded. Stuck on permission denied screen. Thanks!

Looks like a permissions problem of some kind. Try typing:

        sudo chown -hR pi:pi .emulationstation

Then try restarting Emulation Station by typing:

        emulationstation

How are you copying the ROMS, and where to?
What happens if you delete that particular file?
The RetroPie folder seems oddly lowercase and the ROM seems to lack an extension. Is that the actual transcript of the error?

He may be manually transcribing the error incorrectly from the command line. @stanleyman, if that's the case, you should be able to find the error and copy/paste it here from ~/.emulationstation/es_log.txt.

@mediamogul how exactly do I find a copy of the error to place on here? I did post the other one manually and it wasn't the whole error.

I'll give some Moreno background info. I am running a retropi 3 with the current software. I have been installing roms by the USB method than plugging into the Pi box. I download rom packs off of [Removed: Read the Forum Rules]. All of them have been fine untill the last three when that permission denied error pops up.
Just trying to get around the error, don't care if a few of the 1000 games in the pack don't work. Thanks for the help!

If you know how to login through SSH from a computer, the log file can be found at /opt/retropie/configs/all/emulationstation/es_log.txt. From there you can view and copy elements from your preferred text editor. You can also access it through the Samba shares through ./configs/all/emulationstation/es_log.txt.

Did you try the command I first listed above?

I am pretty new to retropie, not sure how to login to the box remotely through SSH. I guess I'll have to figure that out first

Ok one problem with that, I can't actually get into any of my boxes settings right now because this permission denied pops up as soon as I turn the box on. Can I still remotely access without getting into my box settings? Or am I better off starting from scratch and connecting to SSH first ?

There's a way to get to the built in file manager, maybe you could use that.

Ok I will reset my box then try the line of code into built in file manager, then try putting the roms on again
