White flicker on moving through UI after update to 4.2.3

@TMNTturtlguy you tried this repo:
https://github.com/pjft/EmulationStation
with this branch:RetroPie-OMX-Player
in my script and it failed to build ES? -
@meleu no, i tried
https://github.com/pjft/EmulationStation ES-OMX-Master-Merged-Stable
as i think this is the one that he was linking me to previously -
@TMNTturtlguy oh, I got it.
The URL/branch I posted above is based on @pjft 's PR to RetroPie's emulationstation repository.
-
@meleu for some reason this doesn't want to build, so i am just wondering if i need to do something different? If not it is not big deal because I have a script to his repository anyways. In his script he doesn't list the web address the same way yours does, so i can't just replicate it.
Your script works great! Nice tool to have.
-
@TMNTturtlguy can you show me what script you are talking about?
also, my script compiles those several ES branches using the same method used to compile the official RetroPie ES. Then, if @pjft wants to merge that PR to RetroPie ES, I think it should be compiled using the same method.
edit: I'm not near to my RetroPie now, but I'll try to compile @pjft ES branch when I get home.

Hi all, apologies for the delay. Between different time-zones we're all in, and the fact that I've kind of been sick at home since the weekend lead me to be posting a bit less.
That being said, that is correct: @meleu 's linked branch is the one from my PR for OMX integration into the main branch, but the repository @TMNTturtlguy is referring to is effectively the other one.
There should be no black magic there, and the code should be compiling. I don't know what may be the problem.
What error are you getting? You can pretty much see the code here, but it's effectively just a copy of Zigurana's own ES-Kids installation script, which in turn uses the main ES settings for compilation - for anything from dependencies to swap file size.
That being said, if other branches (for instance, Zigurana's) is building correctly but mine isn't, I'd be interested in learning the error. I have no idea what it may be - assuming, as I said, that the code is effectively compiling, which it should, especially if it runs well via the RetroPie-Setup script.
Let me know how I can help.
-
@TMNTturtlguy can you post the error messages you're having?
-
-
-
@TMNTturtlguy Thanks for the best wishes. Should be good soon - must've been something the kids picked up and passed on to me.
Hmm. @meleu might be best able to help here, but it seems that it's trying to download a branch named "ES", rather than "ES-something".
Could you be parsing the string somehow and truncating it at the "-" sign?
-
@pjft here is exactly how I have it entered into the script:
https://github.com/pjft/EmulationStation ES-OMX-Master-Merged-Stable
-
@TMNTturtlguy Yeah, I mean, it sounds right on your end. My question was to @meleu, as I don't really know what the script is doing. It would seem it's truncating it on the "-" symbol.
-
@pjft @meleu i just ran hex's build
http://github.com/hex007/EmulationStation master
and that worked just fine. I am going to try zigurana's kids mode now. I think you are right @pjft. It appears that the script doesn't like your "dash" symbol it looks like you have ES-OMX and it is stopping at "ES" -
@TMNTturtlguy OMG! SORRY SORRY SORRY!! Please, forgive me! How could I consider that a branch can't have the
-
character!! I'll fix my script! -
@meleu No worries! This has not affected me in any way, your time building this is greatly appreciated.
I enjoy the fact that I can do a little bit to help out in testing all of this great work. Take your time to look into it and fix, there is no rush for me. I can confirm i am again running zigurana's kids build right now correctly as well, so it is definitely the "-" symbol. Excellent work my friend. -
@meleu Great. Now you've cracked my copy-protection.
I need to add a different character to my branch now to break the script... I'm thinking of a quote or double-quote.
:P
Thanks for the hard work on this!
-
@TMNTturtlguy @pjft
I've fixed the script.@pjft be creative, this time I used an invalid character for branch name:
~
. :-)Also, I think we are hijacking this thread. Let's talk about the script on its own topic: https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/10479/idea-for-experimental-install-arbitrary-es-branch/55

Actually since people are still coming here perhaps another problem could be sloved here.
You know how when you enterribly a game the grey box that appears were you could press a button to configure your rom preferences, we'll I notice that there are times when the box won't appear and just be a black screen till I boot in game, I can still press a button to access the configuration though.
However grey box won't appear still unless I restart emulation station or if I have a keyboard plugged in and press a key the grey box will start showing up again. This also happens sometimes when I go into the Retropie configuration too.
This has been going on ever since I had installed Retropie for the first time back when I first go the machine. My question is that can this be fixed too? Or is it just a minor annoyance I must deal with?
-
@RedBatman It is interesting that this is happening to you. My first reaction is that it is probably an annoyance as that screen is not required. You can actually set any image or I believe even a movie to play during the Rom Boot sequence by placing images in the splashscreens folder and changing a few settings.
Do you get any errors when the screen does not show? can you pinpoint certain systems this is happening on or certain games? Does it happen when using different themes, or does it only happen when using a certain theme?
Contributions to the project are always appreciated, so if you would like to support us with a donation you can do so here.
