      Hey everyone

      i have a NES USB controller i took the insides of and put into a original NES case.
      Everything playing games works just find but when i go into retropie settings, and try to move forward by selecting A, it just jumps back and forth as if i am using the Left or Right D Pad.

      only the A button

      and the problem is that i cannot exit after unless i reboot .

      tried to set it up again and its same thing.

      possible bad usb pad?
      never had an issue with other controllers

      thanks for your help

        We need to know what RetroPie-Setup version you are using. I recommend you to update your RetroPie-Setup script (it seems that you'll need a keyboard or other controller) and then try again. The button you have setted to A in games should be the one to choose the options in menus.

          @meleu okie okie no problem
          i simply didn't feel like that was necessary as i have used many generic controllers on many versions of Retropie with no issues till this usb controller.
          but I'm happy to offer up the info.

          Pi Model or other hardware: pi 3 model B
          Power Supply used: NorthPada Raspberry Pi 3 Model B Power Supply Charger AC Adapter 5V 3A PSU Micro USB 5 Feet with Power On / Off Switch
          RetroPie Version Used 4.2
          Built From: built from ground up
          USB Devices connected: yes
          Controller used: few (currently nes controller https://www.amazon.com/Classic-USB-NES-Controller-Mac-Compatible/dp/B002YVD3KM/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1496510783&sr=8-4&keywords=nes+usb+controller ) which i gutted the usb and board into a original NES controller case.

          How to replicate the problem:

                @meleu thanks for the suggestion!!
                it actually worked!! was super glad it did!!

                may i ask what do you think caused setting up that usb controller normally as usual and to have the A button work only for games and not the settings part? just glad it works either way :)

                  @briandamico I don't know what caused, but I know what fixed: the changes we talked about here: https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/10321/looking-for-testers-custom-joystick-mappings-for-runcommand-retropie_setup-menus/
