      @SonPluck
Is it just the year and is it only affecting mame? If so then it must be that the scraped data you have for mame is missing that information. Try scraping again using a different source.

Here is a link to UXS scraper if that helps: UXS

@ruckage I think he means the year on the icon ("????").

I think it was '97 MAME released?

I presumed it was left at "????" because MAME isnt a console.

You could be right. If that's what he means then yes that is deliberate as there is no set release date for arcades as it covers so many systems.

Downloaded thru the retropie script, now I tried to change layout but nothing worked,
I tried to overwrite the original - didn't work
I tried to delete the original and change it with a backup - didn't work
I tried to overwrite the whole file without deleting anything - didn't work
Any help? Here is a screeny

@SonPluck /etc/emulationstation/themes/nes-mini/ is a root directory so make sure you are using sudo in your command.

The other thing you could do is edit the file on your computer, move it to a non-root directory and us sudo mv to put it in the /etc/emulationstation/themes/nes-mini directory.

Why do you not add system changing and selection sounds @ruckage ? I think that could work 😀

I would have but EmulationStation doesn't currently support playing sound effects for those events. It currently only supports sounds for the scrolling gamelist and game launching. The ability to be able to play other sounds has been requested I believe and I have all the sound effects ready if that happens.

Hello, is there a way to make the theme only show the game names and no other info? Maybe something that I could change "a la basic" option from themes, thanks & awesome job with the theme!

PS: I specifically mean when i choose for example NDS, the rom list only showing that and no other info.0_1497105868670_unnamed.jpg

Not completely sure what you mean.

If you mean you want to show the gamelist alone without any of the metadata (the info displayed either side of the list such as genre, release date, developer, rating etc.) then no, you can't easily remove that.

If you mean that the names in your list show for example:

'Super Mario Bros. 3 (USA) (Rev A)'

and you just want to see:

                      'Super Mario Bros. 3'

Then that's nothing to do with the theme itself, it's down to the scraped information in your gamelist.xml. You could try scraping from a different source or edit the gamelist.xml yourself using search and replace in something like notepad++ .

What I meant was scenario 1, removing metadata and only having the game list visible, thanks.

Then no, it's not possible. The theme is designed specifically as a detailed theme and if you removed everything but the gamelist you would just have a big empty space either side (not sure why you'd want it to look like that).

@SonPluck If you just want to edit the layout.xml file, do this...

Quit Emulation Station. This should take you to the prompt.

                                Type...
                                sudo nano /etc/emulationstation/themes/nes-mini/layout.xml

Make whatever changes you are trying to make to the file.

When you are finished push Ctrl+X, then push Y to confirm your save and then press enter.

Then type exit and you'll boot back to Emulation Station.

I don't really have any desire to make a metadata free version, I already have plenty enough to work on as it is. On top of that I don't really see the need, the whole theme was designed with the metadata boxes in mind and it would look pretty empty without them.
I would need some very convincing reasons why a metadata free version is a good idea to even consider it.

I personally love the metadata. The only reason I could see a metadata-less version is because of how incorrect the metadata is most of the time, which is obviously not the themes fault whatsoever. Ratings are pointless(who is rating, most of them are missing ratings) and the number of players is almost never correct.

@LiveFastCyYoung true story, but that info is easily corrected and you can do it right from the rom selection menu. Select on the rom selection screen and choose to edit meta data. Simple easy and fast!

It probably depends on the system/scraping source but I found the metadata to be accurate more than not. I personally quite like the ratings, I don't necessarily agree with the rating that is scraped but it's a great way to rate the games yourself. You could actually edit the gamelist.xml to begin with so all ratings are set to zero and then just rate the games as you play them.
