What games are you playing this week? 2017-06-12
-
@obsidianspider after almost 3 weeks I finally managed to restore peace to Hyrule (phew!).
Now I think I'm gonna give Klonoa (GBA) a try. It seems to be a nice platformer and has cheevos. :-)
-
@meleu Maybe you should try the Wii version of Klonoa
-
This weekend I played a little Tetris (GB) just for fun. @jay81uk and myself found out that the rare version 1.0 of Tetris for the Gameboy has a different song for A-Type and that version 1.1 has the song that we all know and love.
I also continued playing the English fan translation of Castlevania: Rondo of Blood/Akumajō Dracula X: Chi no Rondo for the TG-CD/PC Engine-CD. I enjoy the attention to detail and that you can take different paths to complete each level.

I managed to "beat" Mario Kart 7 (3DS) on 50cc mode (3 stars in each series). The last Mario Kart game I'd played before that was Mario Kart Wii and this is a really nice evolution of the series. Stepping up to 100cc certainly makes it more challenging.
I still haven't managed to grind and earn enough money for a boomerang in Minish Cap but one of these days I'll get back to it.
Getting a 3DS was good and bad. It's good because now I have a thing I can just pick up and play, but it's bad because now I'm less motivated to make a portable Pi. That said, I did order the parts to make a MintyPi from wermy and Helder…
-
@obsidianspider Now that you got a 3DS, you have so many games to play. Not only 3DS, but some truly amazing DS games as well.
-
@lilbud The backwards compatibility was a big reason I decided to pick one up. I'm a fan of platformers and JRPGs if you have any suggestions. I've been playing New Super Mario Bros. 2 and Shovel Knight casually as well, just not much this week so far.
-
I'm playing battle ship on my gameboy colour. @obsidianspider I hope to get tetris too!
-
I just got a notification from Adafruit that they got more Pi Zero Ws in stock, so I ordered one of those, a 1200mAh battery for my upcoming MintyPi, a 500mAh battery for my VMU, and some power switches, because well, you can never have too many of those. :)
-
@obsidianspider when you start a topic on building your MintyPi, please tag me so I can follow it. I think I might want to build one of these as well but I've never built a handheld before.
-
Probably going to try and finish "Castlevania - Symphony of the Night" , im probably about 60% done or something. It's a pretty awesome game and have been enjoying every bit of it.
@meleu i played a bit of the gba kloana and it's pretty relaxing.
-
@backstander I have the preorder in for the 3D printed parts and the PCB/screen combos, but those are expected to take a little while to ship. Wermy is working on a guide that should be published soon too. Since the MintyPi will essentially be a "kit", it should be pretty quick. (Well, quicker than the months and months that my other handhelds are dragging on).
Yesterday I found out that there are 3DS versions of RetroArch emulators and, they seem to work pretty well. I've been spoiled by using EmulationStation/RetroPie though. The navigation for RetroArch isn't as smooth as just picking a game and going like in EmulationStation.

Famicom War Journel No. 8
30 turns into the eighth map of 'Famicom Wars' saw victory for my Red Star army in these past seven days. While the terrain was vast and movement hindered in early days, domination of Blue Moon remained consistent. An early and steady movement of mechanized infantry by helicopter was key. Still, the loss of men on both sides was staggering, especially at sea where in retrospect, Blue Moon had an advantage in defensive positioning. As I move into the ninth map this week, with it's constricted mountainous passageways, I find myself mindful that quickly capturing cities will be of particular importance here to increase my ability to produce the aerial units needed for a swift victory. These men fight hard and deserve a rest. However, I fear there's none in sight.

@obsidianspider said in What games are you playing this week? 2017-06-12:
3DS versions of RetroArch
They just crash for me when trying to launch a game
-
@lilbud I had that issue too, but after copying the whole
retroarch
folder from the archive to the root of the SD card, they seemed to work fine. Apparently the CIAs aren't totally self contained. The actual "RetroArch" app crashes every time for me, but each individual emulator works great.
