Please test: Random Game selection/launch via Video Screensaver
-
@pjft First bullet point, i agree i could do without the zoom all together, it was just the zoom to the middle of the screen after video preview was implemented was terrible!
Second bullet point, on fade the meta data flashes a bit, but not as bad as in the zoom feature of slide.

Hi all.
Thanks for helping with this for the last 3 months.
All this work is now merged with the main ES branch.
Some settings will have changed, so you may need to go to the options menu (which have also changed a bit) and re-set them to your liking.
No more need to stay on a separate build!
Best.
-
@darknior Can you please elaborate on what you're experiencing and your setup?
I'm curious as to why overscan is not an option as I don't know a lot about it.
If you're comfortable with ssh I'll send you some commands to test if possible, or changes to the build.
-
@pjft At least try to make the volume slider also control the video volume as well.
No need to file a bug for that - but if you don't hear anything in this in the next few weeks feel free to gently remind me here. :)
.
Would love to know more and potentially test out a few different builds to see if we can at least mitigate it.Ok excellent, if you want i can make some tests on my systems :
- Old HD Plasma with HDMI 2 YUV converter
- Normal HD TV with HDMI
- HD Video Projector with HDMI
With and without Over scan.
-
@pjft Yes i know SSH and use it if it can help to make test
-
@darknior Thanks.
So, just for me to understand:
On each of those TVs, does it work or not with and without the captions, with and without overscan?
Also, why can't you use overscan on the plasma? Does it not support it? You'd prefer not to? I'm just curious - don't know much about it.
In the system that doesn't work with the captions, I'll ask you to login via SSH while you're in ES and try the following:
omxplayer --layer 10010 --no-osd --aspect-mode letterbox --subtitles <subtitle-path> <path to a video you have>
and
omxplayer --layer 10010 --no-osd --aspect-mode letterbox --no-ghost-box --subtitles <subtitle-path> <path to a video you have>
For a subtitle, you can just create a text file on the current path, named test.srt, with the following content:
00:00:01,000 --> 00:00:30,000 Testing subtitles!
Let me know if you need more detail here. I'm curious to see if anything changes between the two. The first command should be the one ES runs, for the most part - but if it actually works, let me know!
You can also test them without ES running, but that should work fine.
Thanks! Let's get to the bottom of this, or at least as far as we can get :)

I have the glitch !
root@retropie:~# omxplayer --layer 10010 --no-osd --aspect-mode letterbox --no-ghost-box --subtitles tt.srt '/home/pi/RetroPie/medias/gba/videos/Advance Guardian Heroes (USA).mp4' Video codec omx-h264 width 720 height 480 profile 100 fps 59.940060 Audio codec aac channels 2 samplerate 48000 bitspersample 16 Subtitle count: 1, state: on, index: 1, delay: 0 V:PortSettingsChanged: 720x480@59.94 interlace:0 deinterlace:0 anaglyph:0 par:1.00 display:0 layer:10010 alpha:255 aspectMode:1
Same !
@pjft On each of those TVs, does it work or not with and without the captions, with and without overscan?
For the moment i only try on the Plasma, but i will try on others quickly.
On the Plasma it works fine without captions, glitch with captions at bottom of the screen only. Without Over scan.@pjft Also, why can't you use overscan on the plasma? Does it not support it? You'd prefer not to? I'm just curious - don't know much about it.
Because i have the HDMI adapter to convert video to YUV. With Over scan i can't see all the image, i lost some part, more at left of the screen.
-
The bug. Some time the glitch gone and come back 10 15 sec after ...
I activate Overscan, and try with ES closed and it's working PERFECTLY !
I also restart the PI to go back on ES with OVERSCAN activated and there it works perfectly too.
With OVERSCAN all is working fine !My only problem is that now i can't remove again the overscan ... i choose no in the menu but nothing append :(
-
@darknior Interesting.
Also, thanks for explaining - that makes sense. I was just curious what set up required overscan - I thought it was mostly for old CRTs.
You say that you set Overscan to No and you still have the glitch? Then it may be something different entirely. Or not :) But I'd love to check.
Can you send me a video of the glitch happening?
The idea behind the commands would be to try to find a setup that works for you, based on these commands: elinux.org/Omxplayer
Would you be able to test out a few options, and see if it changes anything?
Say testing
-z
,-d
, or-r
and see if it changes anything.--lines 1
is also an option.
--display <different number, 0 or 1 for instance>
Basically anything that may change the video output and see if that helps.
Let me know if any of these makes it better or worse. :)
-
Oh. Removing overscan is what you don't want. You want to re-add overscan (i.e. mark it as "yes"). Then you'll get back to seeing the entire picture :)
-
Yes i will try these line but first i must found to remove Overscan, for the moment i can't remove it :(
I don't understand how to remove it, when i choose No in the Retropie-Config it is always there :( -
@darknior Choose Yes. That's what you want. It's "on" by default.
EDIT: you will need to reset the system after that to that effect.
-
@pjft I want to remove Overscan, to have the Glitch and make the tests.
But i can't it is so strange bug i never see before :(I choose no to remove i reboot and always Overscan
I go edit the config.txtdisable_overscan=1
Setting is fine to remove Overscan but Overscan tay always !
It is a silly joke :(Like some time it mount my 1To Hard drive with videos and games without any problem, and some other i reboot 10 times and i never have my HDD :( :( :(
-
@darknior you're not following. The error happens when overscan is on :)
Trust me on that. Mark it yes (it should become 0) and then reboot. The glitch should come back.
It's just an unfortunate name for the option, with the negative label.
-
Like write in this doc : https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/Overscan
My image is now croped and i can't read left menu :(
I want to add again the black borders to see all my image screen !
I try with and without Overscan and nothing change it is silly and it really boring me
I really don't understand, like when my PI don't want to auto mount my HDD !!!And i only have the BUG with the black borders, if i can't put them back i can't do any test :( :( :(
Now i want to take my PI and throw him by the window !
1 hour left for nothing :( -
@darknior let's take a moment here. We can get this back. The borders only show up if you have Overscan enabled.
If you edit the
/boot/config.txt
fileAnd set
disable_overscan=0
Or comment out the disable overscan=1 line, and reboot, you'll get the borders back.
If you don't yet, do send over your config.txt file's content via pastebin, as there are a few finer grained options we may need to add, namely the actual seeing for the size of the border, and I want to see what you have there before making any changes.
Are you booting from a USB Drive/PiDrive?
Thanks for testing and sorry for making you go through this, but we'll sort this!
-
Hi @darknior .
Did you manage to get your Pi back to the previous state? If not, send over the config.txt file - I want to make sure we sort that out. :)
-
Thanks for your help, i already try to use :
disable_overscan=0 or #disable_overscan=1
But noting is working, it is so strange ? :(
I'm booting on my 16 Go SD Card.
And i have enable auto-mount for my USB Hard Drive 1To Seagate with all the ROM, ISO, and VIDEOS ! -
@darknior send over the full file.
These are the following parameters you then want to adjust:
# uncomment the following to adjust overscan. Use positive numbers if console # goes off screen, and negative if there is too much border overscan_left=16 overscan_right=16 overscan_top=16 overscan_bottom=16
Start with those (uncomment them!) and adjust the values as needed :)
See if it makes a difference. In case of doubt, add very large numbers, to see if it's making an effect.
If not... we'll see. I recently heard of a case where we were editing the wrong boot/config.txt file :)
-
I also already try it last day when read the doc
http://elinux.org/R-Pi_Troubleshooting#Big_black_borders_around_small_image_on_HD_monitors
Today i try again with
overscan_left=40 overscan_right=40 overscan_top=40 overscan_bottom=40
But noting change, it is my problem :(
Maybe like you write there is an other file to edit ?
I modify : /boot/config.txt
