@pjft said in Please test: Random Game selection/launch via Video Screensaver:

Say testing -z, -d, or -r and see if it changes anything.
--lines 1 is also an option.
      --display <different number, 0 or 1 for instance>

      I use this line :

      omxplayer --layer 10010 --no-osd --aspect-mode letterbox --subtitles test.srt '/home/pi/RetroPie/medias/gba/videos/Advance Guardian Heroes (USA).mp4'

      • -z : Glitch
      • -d: Glitch
      • -r : Adjust framerate/resolution to video : NO Glitch but video no full screen
BUT crash ES ... Black screen ... ES is invisible but working behind !
      • --line 1 : Number of lines in the subtitle buffer : NO Glitch -> I think the GOOD way for me !
      • --display 0 / 1 : Glitch

--line 1 is the solution i think
I see some time a line or two of the glitch but it is really nothing.

Life is game, just play it !

@darknior hm interesting. Just for curiosity could you also try the HDMI boost option and see if it helps?

What do you see with line 1 on the captions?

Could you add a second line to the caption and see if it renders? The current captions have two lines:
        Game name
        System name

But I can add an option for 1 line if it helps.

        Thanks!

I was reading the description of hdmi_boost on the config file:

          # uncomment to increase signal to HDMI, if you have interference, blanking, or
          # no display
          #config_hdmi_boost=4

Now, if you do run into the issue, could you test it after uncommenting this and rebooting? Just curious if it'd have any effect.

It help a little, the Glitch is little but always there.

With two lines in the SRT you are real i can only see the second one :(
Maybe add this option in settings.

@darknior I see. But you do confirm it works with a single line? Or is it still glitchy?

Any other options in the list that you think may be worth trying out, let me know.

If it works fine, I'll look into adding that option then, and make a compact version of the subtitles on a single line.

            Thank you for testing!

For me with --line 1 it is near perfect

              0_1497561551331__20170615_231158.jpg

With --line 2 it is bad

              0_1497561523648__20170615_231225.jpg

I think you can update ES with this option now.
I don't see any other option to make video better.

And also think to restrict video subtitle to 1 line with this option for guys who have glitch because Overscan.
Maybe write this in the INFO WARNING screen.

@darknior sounds like a plan. Using this with HDMI boost, does it help for you?

Does your TV not have a mode for 1:1 pixel aspect ratio, fit to screen or something? Maybe you could disable overscan and set an option on the TV as suggested on the wiki page you linked to earlier?

No, no option on this old Plasma TV with only YUV, the newest TV don't have this problem i think.
I will try this week-end on my new TV and the Video Projector and make you a feedback ;)

@darknior not a big problem, I was just curious.

As for your request, that is not my area of expertise at all, but I know @Zigurana Is working on something that will be able to make that happen, as you'll see on the GitHub issues.

                      Hopefully that'll help!

                      Edit: here's the link: https://github.com/RetroPie/EmulationStation/issues/132

By the way, your work looks really promising! Good luck with it :)

But the more important is --line 1 !

                        Thanks a lot for @Zigurana , i will check his work :)
Thanks for my work too, i think it will make a cool rendering at the end :)

It would be cool if this demo feature could be in the official img.

@ferhound what do you mean? This has been part of the official EmulationStation for the past 2 or so years. You can turn it on in the screensaver options > random video. You need to have videos set up for the games in your gamelists though.

What image are you referring to and what EmulationStation version are you on?

                            Best.

Im running the latest retropie on rasp 3 with everything up to date, I know about the screensaver videos but I mean a screensaver that takes a random game from the library and runs it.
                              Recalbox just added it.

That's an option in the Screensaver settings in Emulationstation - did you look at the options available in the configuration menus ?

                                  Yes Im looking at it.
Im talking about a feature that its present in Recalbox that is a screensaver wich ITS NOT A VIDEO that selects a game from the library and executes it.
                                  Is that hard to understand??

@ferhound is it hard to understand that you're asking about something that's completely not related to the topic at hand, which dates back from 2017, and try people are trying to help you based on what you initially stated ("when is this available") where you clearly didn't understand what the topic was about, and yet still expect people to have an answer for something that doesn't exist in RetroPie?

Tone was not exactly deliberate, but really: @mitu is trying to help and so was I. If you don't do your homework or participate in a clearer manner, it's hard to help you better.

You resurrected this topic, the answer you got relates to it. Don't expect that RetroPie users necessarily know what new features other projects have, so you will have to explain in more detail on occasion if you'd want to be effective at interacting here over non-RetroPie-specific topics. Not because we have anything against other projects, it's really that not a lot of people actually actively follow other very similar projects.

Long story short: that feature as you described isn't available on RetroPie. If you do have documentation or links about it, though, and would want to share, I'm certainly curious about how they do it. It does look nice from your description.

                                    Best.
