      Recently installed the most recent retropie release and when I go to exit emulationstation to go to the terminal it takes a couple of minutes...it immediately goes to a black screen with a flashing vertical line, hangs for a couple of minutes before loading the terminal. Anyone else encountered this or knows how to fix the issue? Thanks

        @sw12345 You could try this:

          I have the same issue on an installation of RetroPie 3.6 that was made on top of Raspbian Jessie (April 2016 Image) (rather than from a RetroPie SD Card image). It's since been updated to RetroPie 3.7, with the same issue.

          On the same hardware, a Pi 3, I've recently made a test install of the latest Raspbian Jessie Image (May), and RetroPie 3.8. This exits to Emulation Station instantly.

          I assumed the fast exit was due to some fix in 3.8, but it seems not from your post.

            @Charco thanks for linking that wiki article; the saving of metadata regarding games-played etc was the cause, (I have a full Mame RomSet as noted in the the wiki post).

            As per the article:

            An option has been added starting with RetroPie 3.7 to decide whether or not you want metadata saved on exit.

            As soon as this option was used, exiting Emulation Station was once again instant
