Game Genie codes dont work on MegaDrive/Genesis emu's

I noticed that Game Genie codes don't work in the genesis/megadrive emulators while cheats do work with other system emulators. Is this a bug? Does anyone know when the dev's will fix this?

Game Genie codes are only provided for some systems, but there is information in the comments about manually adding more.
