      Hi all
My searches for similar problems resulted in nothing, so I'm asking. I don't know what happened exactly but at some point my rpi/retropie stopped connecting to the wifi. I discovered when trying to access it through ssh. When I go to 'show ip' it just gets stuck at the splash screen. When I choose 'wifi' it also gets stuck on the splash screen. Then I have to restart the system.

So, before I reinstall everything on my sd card, does anyone have a solution or suggestion?

Just a quick update. Turns out I can't quit to terminal either. It also freezes showing the splash screen.

I'll have to take off my SD card, reinstall retropie from scratch, remake my alterations and reupload the roms. This is... disappointing. Also worrying, as I don't want to have to do this kind of stuff once the project gets an enclosing cover and such. And it happened completely out of the blue! I have no idea what triggered this!

Still no one has a clue? Sigh. You know what? I need a break from this project.

I forget, are you using an Rpi 3, or a Rpi2 with wifi adapter? Something might have happened during an update and went unnoticed. Perhaps it was a fluke with the 3.8 install. Are you able to reinstall on top of what you have through Ethernet?

It sounds like you have a really nice build started. Taking a break from a frustrating problem is never a bad idea. It's hard for me to follow that advice sometimes, but the time away really pays off in clarity when you return.

If you can manage to plug in through ethernet and get SSH/SCP access, that would help greatly to get yourself back up and running, as you could back up all the alterations you made.

            Stay strong!

I'm using a pi3. I didn't update anything intentionally. Does it update automatically?

Thanks for the support, guys. I don't have an ethernet cable, but it seem like a good idea to get one. I already bit the bullet and reset the whole thing, using the same image I used the first time. It's working like I first installed it. I'll get back on rewriting all custom scripts when my frustration fades out. Next time I'll make sure to keep backup of everything on my desktop. I didn't keep any because I didn't predict a glitch of this magnitude would ever happen.

No automatic updates, you update through the RetroPie-Setup script.

I think everyone has that moment when they learn why backups are so universally recommended. :) Best of luck out there! You'll be up and running again in no time.
