Ken Griffey Presents Major League Baseball Snes
-
First off, thank you to all who make RETROPIE possible. This is my first post but have been reading the forums for a while.
I am having an issue with KGB baseball. When I load the original version of KGB the teams have no player names. Everything is blank, their ratings are there, but no names for anyone. So I tried a new version that I downloaded with the 2017 rosters, that is also showing blank.
Loaded it on my pc with emulator running and all players are there. Has anyone run into an issue with roms not loading completely.
-
I tried on my Win7 pc to play using snes9x and the names of the players are there. Hmm. Deleted all the Griffey files on the roms and re added the file, first zipped, with the same result, then deleted, rebooted, re added as just the .smc file, rebooted, and same result.
Ken Griffey Winning Run rom works fine. I find this very strange. Everything is updated and what not. Very strange indeed.

@mstone326 Try another snes emulator. There's 4 libretro ones.

just tested all the snes emulators available in retropie, and none of them display the player names. these are the roms tested so far:

@mstone326 @chipsnblip I've managed to get the player names but it's a manual process that needs to be repeated for each team.
- Start a season or World Series with any team and in the Today's Game screen, select
Options
. - In the Options Screen, select
Team Edit
. - Pick a team and in the roster, select
Team Reset
.
The player names should now appear. You can edit player names if you wish.
This needs to be done once for each team. Next time you launch Ken Griffey Jr. Presents Major League Baseball, the player names should be retained.
EDIT: Just found a quicker way. Search for a
srm
file for Ken Griffey Jr. Presents Major League Baseball that contains the player names and drop it into your SNES roms folder. Just make sure thesrm
file name matches your rom. - Start a season or World Series with any team and in the Today's Game screen, select
-
@dudleydes thanks so much for that, works perfectly!
i did a slight variation: i opened the ROM in snes9x (snes9x-gtk 1.54.1-1) on my laptop and did File >> Save State >> Slot 0. then exited the program and copied the .srm file that was created in the ROM folder over to the pi. without having an original cartridge to test with, as far as i can tell all the names are there now.
makes me wonder how many other ROMs have missing data when run on the pi emulators...

Thank you so much for the replies. I will certainly try out these methods when I get a chance. I wonder why it is that this rom misses the data. In comparison, Ken Griffey Winning Run is fine.
What makes this rom different for all of us across the board on Retropie? Thanks again.

Just tried the above workaround and it did indeed work. I created a .srm on my laptop then dragged that into the Retropie snes folder. The players now have names. Thank you!
Still strange why that happens, but nice fix.
