          I thought I already had this one but I guess I didn't.

Not a professional programmer, just a hobbiest. Learned Java in college, but then went another direction instead of Comp Sci. Think Python would be a good place to pick up? I took an online class for fun (6 weeks) on Python and wondering if I should continue. Wondering if I should just try to jump straight into C/C++ given it's the main language used. Any input?

@hooperre C/C++ is certainly a more "serious" language, even though Python is quite versatile and very much used for anything from scripting to web applications.

It depends. If you're starting, I'd probably recommend Python - from what I hear, it's easier to get the hang of. I actually never programmed in it, but looks fairly accessible and not as obscure as some of the more advanced C/C++ constructs.

@pjft Thanks for your reply. I wrote a few basic baaaaaasic python programs and had some fun with it, but don't like that you can't execute those programs without installing python for some reason.

I agree is @pjft. I have also never really programmed in Python but I took Basic, VisualBasic, C, C++ and Java classes way back in college but didn't really use any of it except for some VisualBasic. I think it would be fun to learn Python so you can write some cool things for the Raspberry Pi.

I can't wait to retire in 30 years so I can read all these e-books and start programming for fun!

I'll start reading these books when I stop procrastinating and learn how to program.

@backstander fun fact: I used wireshark a lot when trying to discover how official RetroAchievements emulators talk with the server.

It is a really handy tool.
