Getting a black screen when using Rice with Mario Tennis after the setup for the 8bitdo, was wondering if it has something to do with the update of the Retropie Script? It was working beautifully beforehand didnt know if there could have been a issue with the update somehow?

I can confirm that this is an issue. likely something broke upstream

the issue seems to be the audio plugin. you can change it in the mupen64plus.cfg file as described here for the time being til its resolved upstream:

I've done both reinstall from source and binary, so I can say that this is already fixed in the source version. The binary doesn't fix it, but it does change the plugin back to omx in mupen64plus.cfg, which kind of "fixes" it.

Binary has been updated and I can confirm that it is fixed.
