Borders Overlays RP 4.2, manual install
-
I would like to add Borders and Overlays, and I'd like to do a test border on one system before doing others. I have not quite been able to to make sense of the YouTube videos and posted threads on this topic. At the moment, I mostly want to fill the right and left side of the screen and am not interested in curve or scanlines.
For Example.
I have two files Sega-Mega-Drive.cfg and Sega-Mega-Drive.png
via WinSCP, where do I put each of these files? And are there any other files I need to alter that are already on the RetroPi?
I believe I know how to enable it once I have the files in the correct location.
Text instructions, or pointing to a video is appreciated.
Rpi: 3b
RetroPie: 4.2 -
You can find basic install instructions and overlays here. These work with Retroarch cores.
Note: you need to know the actual game display area (e.g. using RGUI) of the specific system you're going to create overlays for; and add this setting (viewport) in the cfg file. -
Thank you. If I do not alter the game display area, will the game image simply overlap with the border image? or will it mess things up further than that?

I'm not sure where to put the .cfg file, I wouldn't put it in the arcade-bezels folder as described in the link.

@muehltime being an overlay it will overlap the game area.
You can place overlay and cfg in another folder, as you like, as long as inside the cfgs you point to the correct folder and image path. -
Woo hoo!!! I figured it out. Have border overlays for consoles, and was able to figure out the detailed arcade overlays.... cool effect.
