What games are you playing this week? 2017-07-17
-
I've got a broken elbow and with one hand playing games is quite difficult. So it looks like this week isn't gonna be full of games for me.
-
I've tried out a few of my favorite old games. Had a good time with R-Type, TMNT Arcade, Contra and Midnight Resistance - all 1 credit attempts, Arcade.
EDIT: just to clarify, I didn't go far in most - level 3 in R-Type, level 2 in TMNT, level 2 in Contra, level... 4 or 5, I believe, in Midnight Resistance.

I was navigating through 0.78 ROM set and stumbled upon Battle Flip Shot. It's a kind of evolution of Pong. The game is very simple but I'm having fun playing vs. my oldest son (13 y.o.).
-
I gave Saturday Night Slammasters (SNES) a go this afternoon after seeing it highlighted on a recent Michael B the Game Genie video. It's definitely a button-masher, and one that seems more based on luck than anything I can qualify as skill-based. That said, it seems fun and I'm scrolling through a GameFAQ now to try to figure out what I don't yet know in hopes of gaining some kind of advantage against the relentless CPU.
-
After 32 years, I finally beat Jungle Trouble for Commodore 64! (Once I remembered the controls, it only took about four minutes).
-
@afunnyname check out Moto's the arcade game :)

Thank you! I've just had an enjoyable hour or two with a good friend on Battle Flip Shot. As good as promised. We both agreed we would have to play it again!
-
@felleg Ok I'll go look it up next time I have a free moment.

If you like that you should try 'Bang Bead' as well, it's the sequel to 'Battle Flip Shot'.
'Windjammers' is another fun game with similar gameplay. -

Man, that was a frustrating game...until I tried using the analog stick on a 360 controller instead of the D-pad on SNES-like controller I use for nearly everything else I play on RetroPie. So much more playable with the stick, which makes sense since it is an arcade game.

I finally found some motivation to continue with Mystic Quest Legend yesterday.
Until retroachievement site got down, and a cheevo popped but was not registered.
When I realized it, I had already overwritten my save, and therefore I had to restart the game from the beginning if I wanted the missing achievement...
So, I just stopped playing. Sick, sad world... :'( -
Propably multiple ones, as I finished my PiStation project. Strangely, I tried Metal Slug X on PS1 and found that to be amazing game, hidden gem for me. Instantly got hooked to it, so I propably will play that a lot.

It really sucks.
Just FYI, RetroArch keeps trying to register your earned cheevo until it succeeds. So if the achievements list is properly loaded and then the server went down, just keep RetroArch running (if you have this option, of course) and when the server goes back RetroArch will register the cheevo. Keep in mind that it just happens during that RetroArch instance life time.
-
@meleu Thank you, that's what I understood, but a bit late.
The timeline was more : A few cheevos popped and I just beat a boss, let's call it a day. Save, quit. Ah, I'll check retroachievements site. Doh !
Actually I had no idea the site was having issues when I played, and for me the trophy popped so it was all good. My Murphy syndrom kicked again :) -
@sano and all RetroAchievements fans, for your information, the FCEUmm recently got a fix and seems to be now fully compatible with RetroAchievements.
Maybe you will want to update lr-fceumm from source to get this fix.
Details about the (now fixed) FCEUmm issue with cheevos here:
https://github.com/libretro/libretro-fceumm/issues/52The libretro cores compatibility with RetroAchievements list is up to date.

Probably Snatcher for the Sega CD. That's a rare gem that I find is enthralling and extremely well thought out. The only other game out there that is in the same league is the Blade Runner PC game, released in 1997. Honestly I think that game took some inspiration from Snatcher. I'm also trying to get my copy of Blade Runner running on an emulated Win98 VM through QEMU on my test Pi3. Thats kind of my latest project, though I'm not yet sure if the emulation speed will be adequate to run it, as it was fairly advanced for the time.

This afternoon I tried out a little Bubsy…
-
@obsidianspider walks up to microphone Bubsy never needed to exist
-
@meleu There's also a NeoGeo version where you must first hit all items behind your foe and then barricade deems away and then the ball can left the playfield. It's called Bang Bead
I saw @ruckage told you :) and I will try out WindjammersPersonally my week was massive gaming with QUAKE-EP5-Dopa
Terranigma for SNES is on half way, I created mankind now :)Anyway here is the vid of BangBead
