Retroarch - pinball games - Configure 2 players controllers as a unique one ?
-
Hi there,
I have a raspberry pi 3b
i am asking how to configure 2 players controllers as a unique one.
I explain:
-I have made a home arcade cabinet with the 2 players' controllers connected to the GPIO
- I have placed both select buttons of each player on the side of my cabinet with the aim of playing to pinball games as it should be
- But when i try to configure pinbal game into retroarch, i can only set the left pinball button to first player. The second is connected to 2nd player ! so it cannot be part of the first player inputs !
Is there any ways to overpass this and make understand to Retroarch that the two users inputs are just an unique one on theses kind of game ?
Cheers

Does someone have an idea ?

I don't think this is possible by default in RetroArch if your controls are seen as joystick input, but if they are read as keyboard input, you can map the individual keys to whatever controls you like. If this is important to you and your controls are read as joystick input, you could keymap the controls to be seen as keyboard input using something like xboxdrv.

@mediamogul Thank you a lot. I will try it and i will give a feedback if it works

@loujez hey, did u manage to fix your issue? I jus posted my own similar problem just know before I came across yours, I have the exact same setup with the exact same issue so your input would be appreciated. Thanks.

@mediamogul doing it the way you said would that be per game or would a change like that be system wide?

@mediamogul sorry for the late reply jus back from vacation. I haven’t had time to read through the guide properly. I am going to do so ASAP if that doesn’t work I’m thinking of buying longer cable and adding my side button to my player 1 encoder as that button doesn’t get used only for pinball games.

I solved using a keyboard encoder like ipac2 instead of two separated gamepad encoders.

People who use the iPac (sounds like an Apple product : - ) seem to like it.
Curious to see if anyone uses the $15 KL25Z Freescale processor with Pinscape configuration software. Have to supply headers but I think it is a great solution, possibly cheaper.
Thanks for your feedback.

@akav05 I jus back round to trying to figure this out and thanks from the help on another thread I was able to get it to work. My game was Pinball Mania on MAME and through the MAME settings it’s possible to using any button for player 1 regardless of it being from the player 1 or player 2 controllers. I do not know if that’s possible with all systems but in case it worked perfect when playing the game on MAME
