Retropie shutdown

Will unpligging my raspberry pi3 corrupt my sd card? If so how can i safely shutdown retropie to avoid corrupting my sd card?

you can shut it down from ES, a terminal, or you can wire up a button to the GPIO pins with some code behind it do properly shutdown. I did the last option so if it hangs up I can still safely shut it down. -
I seen a video where you have to copy a bunch of codes and install a button on pins 5 and 6. Is that what your talking about?

Not sure what the video is you're referring too but there are many examples of how to do it. -

This is very similar to what I did.

The video i saw was a lot mor codes. How did you put that code that you just posted into the raspberry?

@s1naloa10 as far as shutting down without a button, in emulationstation, press start, scroll down to quit, and then choose shutdown.

This is the best solution I found and the one I went for:

The most famous/traditional/naive method is doing what @edmaul69 suggested:
press start, scroll down to quit, and then choose shutdown system.Isn't it enough for you? In the OP you don't say anything about butons and GPIO.
