      @NightRune not to step on @pjft toes here, but have you tried another theme to see if your meta data shows up? Depending on when the last time you updated ES, there have been some changes to theme making. It should not affect old themes with standard settings, however your custom setting depending on what you did may no longer work correctly with the new update.

      The other thing i just thought of was this: Where did you make the changes to the theme? Did you make a copy of the theme and place it in home/pi/.emulationstation/themes? If you made changes to the theme but did not copy it to this location it is very possible and likely that your changes have been overwritten during an update.

      I can see meta data on any of the default themes (like Carbon) but it stopped showing on my customized Carbon one.

      My customized theme is placed in home/pi/.emulationstation/themes .

      The only changes i made to original Carbon were slight positional adjustments of the meta data so i can't really understand what is causing this issue.

        @TMNTturtlguy Thanks for the reply here - definitely not stepping on anyone's toes!

        @NightRune The answers I have won't be especially useful, unfortunately. To be better able to troubleshoot, it'd be good to know what version of ES you were running prior to this last update, as quite a few things were changed on the theming side of things in the past few months. My changes in particular would not have changed anything on the metadata front, so I wouldn't be able to comment on that, but it may certainly have been that your theme was doing something that was working by coincidence and not by design, that has since been fixed.

        If you'd want to share the differences between regular Carbon (working) and your version here, I'm sure someone would be able to look into it and easily point you in the right direction. Or just post your changed file here - maybe it'll be something fairly obvious for someone who's been doing themes for long and knows all the changes that took place recently.

        My last guess would have been to check in your settings, there's a new option which states "default them view" or something - maybe in the "Other Settings" menu - and confirm it's set to "Automatic" or "Detailed". But given that it seems to work in other themes, I doubt that's the issue.

        Best of luck.

          Just wanted to say thanks to everyone here, I was getting the flashing/flicker after updating a couple of days ago and it was annoying, Updated ES from source today and now getting the black screen and no flicker, the theme I am using feels generally less laggy too.

              @RedBatman

              Follow the instructions in the early post in the thread. Make sure you match exactly. The command line is case sensitive.

              exit to the command line terminal

              cd /home/pi/RetroPie-Setup
              sudo ./retropie_setup.sh

              Then follow @AlexMurphy instructions above starting with manage packages.

                @TMNTturtlguy so do I press enter after the first line, or do I press a different key? Cause when I typed in the first line and then enter I got the -bash, also I went to update Retropie script and it only took a minute. Is that normal cause it makes me believe that nothing was downloaded

                  yes you press enter. make sure you have a space between cd and /home

                  Retropie script and it only took a minute

                  It probably means that your script was up to date and it did not replace anything. Depending on what I have done to my system i have had it update in less than 20-30 seconds, and I have had it take a couple of minutes.

                    @RedBatman after following the instructions from the previous post, then go to manage packages, main packages (I believe), emulationstation, update from source.

                      Got it working now, I accidentally updated the main packages instead of emulation station, white box on console png is gone.

                          @NightRune hi.

                          Just saw this come up:

                          https://github.com/RetroPie/EmulationStation/issues/141

                          Might be related to your problem.

                          I'm curious as to what changes you did vs the default one that may have triggered it. Would love to see a sample of the theme!

                            @NightRune it seems it was fixed just now. Would you try to update from source and see if it's sorted for you?

                            Thanks.

                              @pjft off topic, but can you send me the correct web address for your github omx stable build. I love your script and use it all the time, but i have been playing with the one @meleu build yesterday and for whatever reason when i go to your github page and pull the web link it says it fails to build, but when i run your script, it runs perfectly. I was able to try out the no transition theme using his web address no problem at all. thanks

                                @TMNTturtlguy you tried this repo: https://github.com/pjft/EmulationStation with this branch: RetroPie-OMX-Player in my script and it failed to build ES?

                                    @TMNTturtlguy oh, I got it.

                                    The URL/branch I posted above is based on @pjft 's PR to RetroPie's emulationstation repository.

                                      @meleu for some reason this doesn't want to build, so i am just wondering if i need to do something different? If not it is not big deal because I have a script to his repository anyways. In his script he doesn't list the web address the same way yours does, so i can't just replicate it.

                                      Your script works great! Nice tool to have.

                                        @TMNTturtlguy can you show me what script you are talking about?

                                        also, my script compiles those several ES branches using the same method used to compile the official RetroPie ES. Then, if @pjft wants to merge that PR to RetroPie ES, I think it should be compiled using the same method.

                                        edit: I'm not near to my RetroPie now, but I'll try to compile @pjft ES branch when I get home.

                                            Hi all, apologies for the delay. Between different time-zones we're all in, and the fact that I've kind of been sick at home since the weekend lead me to be posting a bit less.

                                            That being said, that is correct: @meleu 's linked branch is the one from my PR for OMX integration into the main branch, but the repository @TMNTturtlguy is referring to is effectively the other one.

                                            There should be no black magic there, and the code should be compiling. I don't know what may be the problem.

                                            What error are you getting? You can pretty much see the code here, but it's effectively just a copy of Zigurana's own ES-Kids installation script, which in turn uses the main ES settings for compilation - for anything from dependencies to swap file size.

                                            That being said, if other branches (for instance, Zigurana's) is building correctly but mine isn't, I'd be interested in learning the error. I have no idea what it may be - assuming, as I said, that the code is effectively compiling, which it should, especially if it runs well via the RetroPie-Setup script.

                                            Let me know how I can help.
