Comic Book Theme 16:9 Full Release
-
@TMNTturtlguy PIXEL is just called
desktop
it also appears automatically underports
when you install it. I think you need to manually set it up as its' own system. Amiga CD32 is just underamiga
but I'm sure it could manually be set as its' own system again. -
@chrisdodgen your already scraped images should show up in the bottom right grey area. The large black area is for video. You must have video scraped in order for anything to show up in that area.
-
@TMNTturtlguy Ohhhhhhhhhhhh. Hmmmm. Is there a quick way to tweak that on my end so that it would show large screenshots instead?
-
@chrisdodgen if you don't want any video at all, you could try this, it is not quick, but not hard.
open comic_book.xml
Delete lines 92-116 (this will be the entire Feature supported = video)
Save and restart ES. You should now only have image support. Now, in the theme folder go into the folder for each system you are running:
open theme.xml
find the follow: (it should be lines 60-64) and delete it.<image name="md_image"> <pos>0.918 0.525</pos> <maxSize>0.127 0.17</maxSize> <origin>0.5 0.5</origin> </image>
Save the file.
Repeat for each system you are running.Restart ES. Now your scraped image will show in the large black box. nothing will show in the small gray box.
Otherwise just get one video for each system and put that into your gamelist. Once one rom has a video in the gamelist, the large black box will display the Images for the other games in the large black box.
Let me know if that works.
-
@TMNTturtlguy No, that sounds like it will probably work for me. I'm going to give it a shot. Once again, great work across the board.
-
Stupid. Just noticed the setting under the ES UI for "Gamelist view style." Mine was defaulted to "basic" after the update. I now see the metadata and box art I was expecting. I thought that was determined by whether or not you had metadata at all. Everything's working now.
Anyway, I'll let you know on the Screenshots vs. video. I'm going to try it both ways. My issue is that I'm running off SD, and I'm concerned I will have to increase card size like a mofo if I go to video, and I don't really want to waste several gigabytes of storage just holding a bunch of mp4s. data.
-
@chrisdodgen great that you have it working! As for video, again all you need is one video per system and then the theme will show the image in the large black box. Give that a try before editing the theme.
Also you should make sure to reduce the size of your videos using a program like handbrake so they will not use as much space and run better in ES.
I have also requested that a future improvement for ES be the ability to theme multiple scraped images in a theme. Right now we are only allowed one scraped image per view. When this request is implemented i will be able to improve this theme.
-
@AlexMurphy cool! I believe I should be covered in the theme then!
-
@TMNTturtlguy Man, you must just love work... That is one BIG theme. But you are unlikely to get ant shitty white screens!

This is confusing to me. Does this mean it would just play the same video across all games for that system? And where would I put each video? In the system folder for the theme?
-
@TMNTturtlguy Have you asked for the theme to be included in the
theme downloader
? There is some fairly bland stuff on there, not that I am criticising, but yours is something a wee bit different. -
@AlexMurphy He mentioned this on the other board. He's kinda beta testing it right now, with plans to try to get it incorporated once he's sure there's no major bugs.
-
@chrisdodgen Did he not just announce the release last night?
-
@AlexMurphy There was another comment in there somewhere that mentioned he was holding off until he'd made some final tweaks, I believe. I may be mistaken, but that's what I thought I read.
-
@AlexMurphy not yet, I wanted to get feedback first to make sure it is working properly, which it appears it is. I am also creating a special edition which will replace the classic logo above the video preview with wheel art for each game. This will only work for users with wheel art in their gamelist as <marquee> so it will be for advanced users. Once this is ready I will request to get this on the retropie theme menu!
-
@TMNTturtlguy At some point you will need to stop tinkering with it and just "Let it GO!" I understand that we love our children but... bugs can be worked out.
-
@chrisdodgen no it won't play video for all games. You need to put 1 video on the same location as your images for the system. In your gamelist you add the path to that video for just one game. This will tell the theme to play a video for that specific game, all the other games will then show the large image in the black box.
-
@TMNTturtlguy Interesting. I'm going to try something crazy. I'll report back.
-
@chrisdodgen Don't try to influence space/time by busting open your microwave oven. Please!
-
@TMNTturtlguy I posted an issue on the old repo explaining what steps you need to take for it to be included in the retropie installer, but it seems it got deleted when you created the two new repos.
The way the installer works through git takes into account any changes so if you go to update the theme if you've made any changes to the repo since the original download it will just pull the changes, so users can always be on par with any of your development changes,
Though from your commit history it looks as though you're using the web interface which is pretty limited in terms of development, I would recommend at the very least using the windows desktop gui so that you can make multiple changes at once without having to manually do things over the web interface.
Contributions to the project are always appreciated, so if you would like to support us with a donation you can do so here.
