Last week I had friends playing random games on my current Pi setup and they kept losing track of what games they played recently.

Today I recalled a Pandora Box that I installed on a friend's cabinet a few years ago, featuring numbers before each title for convenience.

Wouldn't this be a nice feature? Instead of taking long notes or adding to favourites, players could simply write down a number and revisit that random obscure title anytime!

@matchaman Or you could just note the name of the game...

I think a better idea would be to have the ability to sort by Last Played. Extra sorting options have been added lately and I'm surprised this was omitted (assuming it's actually possible to implement).

@robertybob Yep. This is a better idea. A load of numbers is just going to make the gamelist look cluttered and untidy. Especially for those with thousands of roms.

@robertybob It should be possible. RetroArch definitely keeps track of latest played games.

@robertybob It's already kinda there, not in the filter but Sort Games by then choose Last played, descending

@AlexMurphy said in Idea: ROM numbers:

@matchaman Or you could just note the name of the game...

It's not about me, it's about casual visitors who won't bother with such thing.

My idea came from what Pandora developers did, probably for the exact same reason:

@robertybob the sorting is good but that's what I personally use to play again recent titles, not for visitors. Numbers would work even for the most "lazy" people, while menus confuse them.

@robertybob I had been toying with the idea of adding an extra system menu with the games you last played on RetroPie as a whole, as I myself had a similar need.

I'm not sure how feasible that would be, but it's certainly something I would love to have. Would that help with this use case? Visitors would probably mostly be interested in games played in that session, I assume - even though the list would span more games, probably the last 50-100?

                      Thanks for adding me here!

Edit: alternatively, if it's a numbering thing we'd be looking for, I'd likely suggest a script and doing that via gamelist name editing.

Edit 2: yeah, there is also a sorting option per system that can do the trick in the interim!
