Super Space Invaders overlay
-
This week's ROW is "Super Space Invaders '91".
Description (from Arcade Museum):
This game, also known as Majestic Twelve, is an update of the classic alien-zapping arcade game. More than a decade newer than Space Invaders, this version features colourful backdrops, fantastic power-ups such as the Fire Flower and the Buster Laser, weird new sound effects and faster game play. The funniest and most memorable new addition to the game is the cattle mutilation section where you must defend cows from flying saucers that swoop down and carry the cows away. There are however enough references to the original for the game to retain the Space Invaders charm. For example the sound on the first level mimics the continual deep repetitive thud sound from the original game. This classic absolutely deserved an overlay ;-)
A couple of hours and... here you go:
It's based on original arcade Flyer and Bezel.
btw: it seems no pictures of cabinet artwork are available. And, of course, I made also the overlay for the MJ12 version (based on original arcade game bezel):
Image (scan) of the instructions (part of official mame overlay for MJ12) was really low quality so I recreated that part completely in vector format. The MJ12 logo was quite time consuming!
Have fun!!!
As usual I have no time no to test it so if you try these please post screenshots.
You can find this and more hand crafted quality overlays in the rpie-ovl repository.
And if you want an easy way to install them, @meleu created a great dedicated script.
Perform these commands on your RetroPie:cd git clone --depth 1 https://github.com/meleu/rpie-art cd rpie-art ./rpie-art.sh
After launching
rpie-art.sh
script you just have to follow the instructions in the dialog boxes. Once you have therpi-art.sh
script, choose the Update option to get all the latest art in the repository. -
What about Scrape and Launching images?
Made them too:

@UDb23 it's getting there then ☺ my cab is fine but since I've got it into a usable state I've never actually got around to finishing it. One day...
