Guys, I came across a very strange problem and I cannot seem to find a solution. I have searched the forum and no one seems to have had this issue.

I went to update emulation station, it went through the whole dog and pony show and then the updating stopped progressing. So I unplugged is and plugged it back in, and now emulation station will not recognize any of my usb controllers or my keyboard! I cannot even use the F4 option because it will not recognize my keyboard. Has anyone else seen this issue? Know of a solution?

I would just wipe the whole SD card and start over, the problem with that is that I have game progress saved on one game and I don't want to spend the time and start the game all over from the beginning. If I were to wipe it clean and start over, is there any way to transfer the saved data to the new card?

      Thank you guys.

If you can SSH into the Pi, then you can try to run a full update to completion and see if that fixes anything. If nothing else, you can at least pull over your save file to a safe place using Samba or SFTP if you need to start over.

Edit: If you are able to SSH, then you can run the RetroPie-Setup script using:

        sudo /home/pi/RetroPie-Setup/retropie_setup.sh

That took a lot of learning and work but the problem is resolved. Thank you!

Incase anyone else comes across this issue; putty will not connect to Retropie on it's own. You have to take the SD card out, plug it into your computer and in the "boot" folder, you have to add an empty folder and name it "ssh" in order for it to work.

@TheNorseman if you had enabled ssh prior to this issue, you shouldnt have to do that.
