ok, I am wondering if there is a way to have a rom in ONE location, but have it show up in multiple locations?

For example, in my snes roms I have them split into folders (sports, action, puzzle, and favorites) Is there a way for me to only install the rom 1 time on the raspberry Pi (using retropie) and have it show up in both Sports and Favorites, or do I have to physically install it in both locations?

      Thanks!

I'm definitely not an expert on this, but I believe the only way to do this is to make a custom .sh command that points to the rom file and runs the appropriate emulator for it. Then you'd prefer that .sh file in as many places as you'd like the game to appear in. That way there's only one rom, but multiple instances. If I remember correctly, this also allows for the same save file to be reused between different locations of the .sh file (something that multiple rom files would not be able to do).

Of course you'd still need to add the .sh to the acceptable file extensions list for that "system", and your need to modify your gamelist.xml to include the relevant info for the game (which would be duplicates for as many instances of the .sh file as you have ).

I could be completely wrong on all of this, so can anyone else confirm or deny?

@cafarellidigital @Mishtakzun you can definetly do what you want, install the rom in one location and link to it. See this thread on how to do it with @meleu script. link text
