      Hey Guys,

I screwed something up on my arcade setup. Latest version of Retropie running on Pi3....

So in Emulation Station I set my "Hot Button" to my 6th button on Player 1. I set my start button to the "Player One" Button and my select button to my "Player Two" button. So when I push the hot button and start button to jump out of a "Arcade" game nothing happens.

I think I need to reset all my controllers. I have been moving buttons and switching wires. How do you reset everything so you can re input all your controllers?

      Thanks,

@ChristianG I am on my phone so this is from memory. You can go into /opt/configs/all/emulationststion

I hope that is correct. It should get you close.

There is a file there something like esinput.cfg or just input.cfg.

You can either open this and edit it manually or you can delete and do a system reboot. On system reboot the file will be recreated and you will get the controller setup screen right away. You will then have to reset everything.

If your setting are only wrong in your arcade system you can go to /opt/configure/arcade

There should be a few files in there, I can't remember for sure, but i think the file you need is just the retroarch.cfg maybe someone else can confirm. If you delete this, it will remove all of your emulator specific settings. Restart and you can then reset everything the way you want it.

Last thing, have you tried just pressing start and redoing the controller setup for each controller? This should probably fix most things except for the retroarch core overrides.

@TMNTturtlguy What I am finding is that i can't back out of games anymore because the hot button is not working. Also, in arcade games certain buttons don't work. I don't get it. So in Emulation station I can set these buttons up. When I goto controller setup in arcade mode "tab button", those buttons are unassignable. So for "coin" I hit a button and nothing happens. Its like a dead button. But yet in emulation station that button was easily assigned. I don't get it.

@TMNTturtlguy So I think I have to just reset everything and start over. Maybe I just conflicted everything.

@ChristianG it sounds like you are not using retroarch emulators. What name emulator are you using? If you switch to lr- emulators then they use your button configs from Emulationstation and you can edit them using the retroarch menu. If you are using mame4all he controller setup is independent of the controller setup in ES.

@TMNTturtlguy I am using 2003. It was working perfectly for a bit until I disconnected all my buttons and rewired them. I put them back the same way though.

So I deleted those files as you mentioned and reassigned my controllers for emulation station. It is the hot button and start button that backs you out of a game correct? So the hot button is not responding in arcade now. Also buttons in arcade are not assignable.

I assigned the one player button to start in emulation station. In arcade mode assigning the button is dead.

I assigned the two plater button to select in emulation station. In arcade mode assigning the button is dead like it doesnt exist.

I have a blue button I gave a random assignment in emulation station and it worked. In arcade mode I need to assign this to coin but it is dead.

Why are buttons that worked before not working now in arcade mode is my issue.

Also why is emulation station not backing out of games when i hit the hot button and start.

                thanks !

@TMNTturtlguy All of this was working before I redid the button holes on my control panel and rewired them back. Now buttons aren't recognized up in "arcade" that are assigned easily in emulation station. Its like there is no button there in arcade controller setup. I just keep hitting it and it doesnt register.

                  Thanks.

                    @ChristianG are you using lr-mame2003?

If you are, the buttons you set up in ES should work in the arcade games. Select start at the same time is the default exit. In the most updates ES you have to assign your hit button during the controller setup. Have you done this?

Also, only player 1 can exit games. Are you certain you are using player 1 when trying to exit?

@TMNTturtlguy So here is what is happening...

I can setup buttons in Emulation Station. I have 6 buttons and a joystick, player 1 button, player 2 button and a blue button (coin in Arcade) in the first player 1 board. I can assign all of them to something in Emulation Station meaning they all read.

I am finding once I am in games like Nintendo or Atari, none of the buttons work. I find in arcade nothing is working either. When I hit tab and goto controller setup in arcade I can assign joystick and buttons but the player 1, player 2 and blue button do not register now even though they registered in Emulation Station.

                      What do you suggest? Thanks....

@TMNTturtlguy Also Select Start in games does nothing now even though it worked before I rewired my buttons.

@TMNTturtlguy Just to reiterate, everything was working fine as it should until I had to redrill my control panel and pull my buttons. I have 2 separate controllers for player 1 and 2. I was careful to wire all the buttons back the way they were though but for some reason I have created issues....

@TMNTturtlguy Not sure how buttons are read in Emulation Station but in "arcade" controller setup they do not register.

@ChristianG at this point I am out of suggestions. If they all register in emulationstation, your wiring should be ok, so it is probably an emulator issue. The fact that you are using tab in arcade tells me you are not using the lr-mame2003 emulator. I again would try using a retroarch emulator- they start with lr. That said, any emulator should work.

Sorry but I am out of suggestions. I have shared how to delete all old controller settings and start new. That isn't working for you, so there must be other issues.

@TMNTturtlguy Thanks for your help. I might just create a new sd card with a fresh version of retropie. Do you know any procedure I would use to copy the existing game folders to my hard drive so I can reinstall those games on my new retropie disk image?

                                    Thanks!

@TMNTturtlguy When I set up my arcade everything worked and I didnt set anything in retroarch.

                                      Here were my steps...

                                      1. Disk image of retropie
                                      2. Rotate screen for Portrait mode (commands inserted)
                                      3. Install games
                                      4. Switch "arcade" to mame2003 emulator
                                      5. Set up controls in Emulation Station
                                      6. Setup controls in "Arcade"

                                      Thats pretty much it.

So I guess I better figure out where retroarch comes into play here :)

@ChristianG retroarch is just the emulators that start with lr. Try lr-mame2003. Just try it on one game and see if your controllers work. The lr emulators use the same settings for controllers as emulationstation by default. In Theory if the controllers work is es they should work in the lr emulators. That is why I have asked you to try this.

My other thought is that you need to us a keyboard when using the tab button to set up your controls in the non retroarch name emulator. Are you doing that? I believe you need to press escape on the command you want to set and then hit the controller button you want to set. Are you doing that?

@TMNTturtlguy Yes I am using a keyboard to setup all my controllers. I hit esc once in the arcade game and goto controller setup. I use my keyboard to input my controls. It seems some buttons work, other are not picked up. So my one player, two player and coin buttons won't enter. They were before but now they are dead. I can use them for start select and hot key in emulation station, but they are dead in arcade controller config. Ill try lr-mame2003 now.

@ChristianG did you set your one player, two player and coin buttons up in the controller setup? For example I set my coin buttons the "left thumb". You have to set all your buttons to a button in the controller setup.
