[solved] Vice (C64) (or other installed emulators) not showing in EmuStation
-
I installed Vice via the YouTube instructions below. I have tried both install from binary and install from source. I have added .d64 and .tap roms to the c64 folder. (The roms work on Windows Vice emulator. ) When I restart EmulationStation, the Commodore logo simply does not appear in the menu. I can share files if you tell me which ones will give you information and where they are located. Thanks for your help.

@muehltime if you have an es_systems.cfg in /opt/retropie/configs/all/emulationstation/, then you either need to delete it or copy the c64 section from the es_systems.cfg in /etc/emulationstation/

@edmaul69 thanks for the reply.
There is an es_sytems.cfg file in /opt/retropie/configs/all/emulationstation/
I am making a back up copy of it. And I can delete it.
However, I'm not sure I understand your second suggestion. "or copy the c64 section from" (that file)... copy it from where to where?

@edmaul69 WOW.... you are a genius.. that was it.... I deleted it, rebooted emulation station and the new systems popped up. Thanks! Can you tell me why deleting that file made it work?

When
es_systems.cfg
is present at/opt/retropie/configs/all/emulationstation/
, it overrides the maines_systems.cfg
file that is located at/etc/emulationstation/
. By design, this allows you to customize how the systems and ports display and behave in Emulation Station. When you deleted it, the main file was allowed to show the entry for C64. As mentioned above, an alternative would have been to copy over the C64 listing from the main file to the custom one, but if there's no need for the custom file, it really shouldn't be there. -
