Hello, I have tried allot fixes and have no luck so far. I have noticed a few strange differences to the way my image acts compared to everyone's image online.

Got an attract mode 128GB image of the web (MLP), imaged it and got it running everything works but my controllers. I am new to linux and programming in general but work in pro AV and have done some simple programs before. Here is the issue and the fixes I have tried and why I am so confused:

Issue: 8bitdo nes3o pro & i-buffalo snes controller do not work correctly in game

8bitdo: the y button does not work in game but the power button (which i never mapped) functions as the y button should?
also, start and select do not work in game but R2 and L2 (which I did not map that way) function as start and select.

(Note: firmware hack is off and udev rule is set correctly)
(Note: firmware of controller: 2.0 most recent)

I-buf SNES: everything works correctly in game but the start and select (thus I can not start some games or exit or save)

Here is a list of everything I have tried so far to fix:

      • cleared all controller configs for ES via the retropie setup menu and re-mapped in ES. Same issue
      • found working .cfg files for both controllers online and hard-coded them via retroarch config/all (same issue)

Links to /cfg files I copied:

      https://github.com/libretro/retroarch-joypad-autoconfig/blob/master/udev/iBuffalo_Classic_Usb_Gamepad.cfg

      https://github.com/mholzinger/8bitdo_retropie/tree/master/configs

-tried downgrading 8bitdo firmware to 1.69, tried with firmware hack off and on (same issue)
-ssh into unit and tried to alter the .cfg files there using Sudo Nano, using this directory location:
      /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch-joypads/8BitdoFC30Pro.cfg
as directed online, and found it was empty? But how did I find CFG files via the gui?

-so I decided to SFTP into the unit and try to find them, and they was no config file under this path:
      /opt/retropie/emulators/retroarch/configs

and found no configs folder? So, I made one and placed the nes30 .cfg file from the above link there. Reboot system and same issue

      • so then i tried to find the .cfg files i edited via the gui and found them here:

      -/opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch-joypads

I deleted the Nes30 Pro .cfg file and replaced it with the one from the above link (same issue)

I edited the SNES .cfg file so it was the same as the above link and (same issue)

What am I doing wrong.... I am obviously missing something here or the MLP image is giving me issues... Any help would be appreciated I am out of options.

@jmesa732 the problem probably is the unsupported illegal download you got. To me it appears the person appears to have set up manual configurations in the config files. So example, he probably set up say button 0 goes to the start button but on your controller button 0 is actually on r1. Again just an example as i dont know your controller setup. So you need to open up all the retroarch.cfg files and delete all the manual config part of them.

Also, I do not wish to use any unsupported images. Thus, I will delete this image. Thanks for the support.

@jmesa732 you'll find that with the official image generally things will work and if they don't you'll at least know what you've done to it so it's easier to troubleshoot and we're happy to help of course if you get stuck
