Using the Retropie Setup Script and scanning for bluetooth devices it has never seen my 8bitdo SNES30 controller. However, if I use "hcitool scan" within the terminal it picks it up right away. Any help on getting this paired would be much appreciated! Thanks!

      Things I've tried:

      • "Quit Emulation Station with F4 and type this at the command line: sudo /home/pi/RetroPie-Setup/retropie_setup.sh "U" Update RetroPie-Setup Script "3" Setup "Configure Bluetooth devices"
Make sure your controller is turned on in the correct pairing mode (Power on for FC30 Pro, Start+R for SFC30), then choose: 1 Register and Connect to Bluetooth device Follow the prompts and your controller should connnect This is shown by a solid blue light on the 8bitdo controllers Quit out of the setup script

      • Trying multiple controller firmware

      • sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade then rescan

      Thanks!

      EDIT:
      Pi Model: Raspberry Pi 3
      RetroPie Version Used: 3.6
      Built From: SD Image
USB Devices connected: Logitech KB/Mouse combo
      Controller used: SNES30 8bitdo controller
Error messages received: My controller isn't detected in the RetroPie Script but is detected when using hcitool scan from a terminal window.

ah, thought this would be the one. Guy on the video makes it past the 'Register and Connect to Bluetooth Device'. Witch I don't...
Just the same old blinking lower left corner and command lines that doesn't respond to anything but a 'pull out the usb cable'...

Why are you connecting your 8bitdo controller to the PI with the USB cabel?

If this is what you are doing it's not the way to connect 8bitdo controllers over Bluetooth.

When connected via cable they act as USB gamepads with Bluetooth disabled.

I'm having this exact same issue:

              EDIT:
              Pi Model: Raspberry Pi B
              RetroPie Version Used: 3.6
              pi@raspberrypi:~/RetroPie-Setup $ git show
              commit 841c5b237f025af2c458ea7b8c6caa7a36c644fe
              Author: Jools Wills buzz@exotica.org.uk
              Date: Sat Apr 23 19:37:32 2016 +0100
              Built From: SD Image
USB Devices connected: Asus bluetooth dongle. Bus 001 Device 004: ID 0b05:17cb ASUSTek Computer, Inc.
              Controller used: SNES30 8bitdo controller

              I have followed:
              https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/setting-up-a-bluetooth-controller

But when I attempt to pair the device it never sees the controller. Like updawg said I can see it via the hcitool scan but it never actually registers. This is a fresh install. Even manually adding the mac address and forcing it to connect via the walkthrough. The controller doesn't work.

So mine maybe just a timing and mis-config. I had some left over .cfg files from when I set up the controller via the USB cable. I wiped those out and all appears to working now. (Well almost. The controller doesn't work in any of the games.)

                Pulled down a config from:
                https://github.com/libretro/retroarch-joypad-autoconfig/blob/master/udev/8Bitdo-SNES30-GamePad-Bluetooth-Mode(START).cfg

                Works.
