Dreamcast Roms - Working list of roms and settings
-
@tmntturtlguy thank you! I see, you have the same problems I have on crazy taxi, which is the only game I really wanted to have here.
Still, nice list. Is the spiderman game any good?
-
@pjft I haven't played spider man much more than running around the very beginning of the game and jumping a few times so i can't speak to it. I hope it is, but who knows if i will ever get a chance to play it!

Question about overclocking, what do you use to stop your pi from overheating. Do you use a case or fan and what model of which. I appreciate any feedback anyone can give me.
-
@afunnyname I use c4labs case with the fan. The website is c4labs.net. They used to have the fans inside the case, it looks like they don't have them on their site right now, but amazon might have them. The website has an option for the fan mounted outside the case. I also have heatsinks as well. I run these cases with fans even on builds without overclocking as it keeps my running temps in the 40's at all time without overclock and in the high 50's when running a 1350 overclock.
-
I ran mine at a 1350 overclock, and with the standard ebay special heatsink it farted and overheated in less than two mins playing Q3 arena. I 3d printed a case for it to hold an 80mm fan right above the crappy heatsink, it holds low 50's whilst playing Q3 arena now, and sits at 40 in the menu. Previously it was at 75 in the menu without an overclock and just the heatsink with no fan.
-
@tmntturtlguy Mind sharing your overclock? Does v3d help at all with Dreamcast?
-
Im using this one now which before i was using a normal type of case but wanted to do a little overclocking myself to see if certain Mame games works better you know.
-
@theWinterDojer here is what i am currently using as a fairly safe overclock with my heat sinks and fan. Please note, i have 3 separate retropie's. I have 2 in cabinets that I run without any overclock and I have 1 that I run on my TV that I use this overclock. When i get time i am going to try testing it out at 1400 to see if i can improve on a few more games and psp. As for if v3d does anything for dreamcast - i don't really know, but it does help on N64.
I originally had my
over_voltage
set at 3 but after playing N64 for a while I started getting some instability and freezes so i bumped it up to 4 and it runs nice and smooth.#uncomment to overclock the arm. 700 MHz is the default. arm_freq=1350 gpu_freq=500 core_freq=500 sdram_freq=500 sdram_schmoo+0x02000020 over_voltage=4 sdram_over_voltage=3 v3d_freq=525
-
@tmntturtlguy Sweet, I am running the same thing actually, except without
sdram_schmoo
andsdram_over_voltage
. I haven't found it to be necessary but maybe I should give it a try and see if it helps. Also, not sure if you copied this straight from your config but sdram_schmoo has a
+
sign instead of a=

@thewinterdojer typing error!
-
@tmntturtlguy I was hoping it wasn't and you discovered a secret technique which made N64 and Dreamcast perfectly playable.
-
I've ran Sega GT, Sword of the Berserk and Soul Fighter through Reicast on a non o/c stock Pi3 and they played fine give or take any stuttering, so they should run more or less perfect on o/c settings.
-
@cornervizion SWORD OF THE BERSERK! how was the game? this has been on my "to play" list for quite a while.
-
@buddyscott Hi, I tried it out the US version over Christmas and that played quite well. I didn't pursue playing any more as I was concerned about the Pi's temperature. But I'll be looking to o/c the machine at some point to try Reicast again.
-
Do any of you get the date time screen every time you play a dreamcast game? I've tried several bios files thinking thats the problem and its never resolved it.
-
@hurricanefan yes, there are several other posts on this issue. From what I understand The pi doesn't have a battery so it loses its time when you power off....there is more to it than that, but you can look it up in a lot of other threads.
