Recently i purchased this VGA666 GPIO to VGA adapter for some reason every time i attempt connect and setup to RetroPie 4.2 it give me the Error
Out Of Range
Working Range
H:31-80KHZ
V:56-75HZ
Max resolution 1440x900
Current Mode
H:15khz <-----------This is the Issue
V:60HZIve Some adjustments in the config.txt file as requested/suggested in mutliple forums and googling/youtubing. but to no affect cant get picture from the Raspberry Pi3 Model B
In the sales page where i bought this adapter it has setting on there for the adapter to work my problem is some of these setting are not in the config.txt and i dont know where to put. Would someone mind taking a look at the setting needed and confirm if their placement needs to be somewhere specific with "#"
Theses are the setting needed according to sales webpage:How to use:
Edit /boot/config.txt file with vim.tiny or other editor.
and modify as following:
framebuffer_width=800
framebuffer_height=600
dpi_group=2
device_tree=bcm2710-rpi-3-b.dtb
dpi_mode=86
dtparam=i2c_arm=off
dtparam=spi=off
dtparam=uart0=off
dtparam=uart1=off
dtoverlay=pi3-disable-bt-overlay
dtoverlay=vga666
enable_dpi_lcd=1
display_default_lcd=1
force_pwm_open=0
dtparam=audio=on
start_x=1
gpu_mem=128You should disable all of GPIO pin's function so that it can work properly.
we strongly recommend that you use 800x600 resolution.Thank you

SOLVED after a few more tinkers found it was one of the setting in the config txt.
I had dpi_mode=87 instead of dpi_mode 86

Soooooo After getting the video portion to work now my screen is off center to the left. I can somewhat fix by changing the Horizontal setting on the monitor to 100% but every time the RP3 reboot its offer center again.
I have attempted using overscan setting and changin the frame width and height! Unfortunately its one minor bump from another
This is my current Config file and Image of whats happening to the GUI Config and Image Off center

@crashpsycho i had this same issue on one of my tv's using an hdmi to vga adapter. I just stuck my roku on my vga and used the hdmi for my pi. Im assuming hdmi is not an option for you though.
-
@edmaul69 I can connect my RPi3 to a TV i just dont have a monitor with HDMI. wanting to build a bartop for my kids to play. and rather not spend additional money if not needed.
-
@crashpsycho yeah i assumed that. I was just stating that the issue was with the hdmi port as well so you can rule out the adapter being the issue. I didnt try it, but adjusting the up down left and right overscan in the config.txt to fit the screen might fix it.
-
@edmaul69 thanks yeah ive attempted that and nothing happens im gonna attemp install noobs and see if it the screen issue occurs at this point it would be more of a monitor issue this is over 10 years old

@crashpsycho i would not go killing everything yet. Im sure someone has the answer. Just wait a little bit to get an answer. Most people are at work right now.
-
@crashpsycho also if if you set it to 800x600 i would try 1024x768 and see what that does.
