MAME Second Contoller for Twin Stick Shooter

Hey all. Got system running pretty well. Using two U360 joysticks for player one and player two. For twin stick shooters ( robotron, smash tv, total carnage) I am using the player one stick and the player two stick for movement and shooting, respectively. Works beautifully.

Question is, for a two player twin stick shooter game like smash tv, I want to use one of my USB Gamepads (that I use for NES and SNES emulators) for player two.

I cannot for the life of me figure out how to do this. Tried several different configure and ordering the controllers in the settings but no success so far.

Is this possible?
