Possible License Violation?

First of all... Sorry to bother anyone here and please delete this post if not "Appropriate"
Whilst using Facebook earlier, the company "Pi Retro Gaming" came up as my sponsored post.
From what I can ascertain upon looking at their page is that they're selling Raspberry Pi's with Retropie fully loaded with ROMs
Here's the link so that you can decide for yourselves.

Thank you for listening.

Yeah, it is a violation of the RetroPie license, the licenses for some of the packages included in RetroPie, not to mention a violation of the copyrights for the ROMs. We get these kinds of posts all the time, so it is nothing new for the RetroPie community.

@pokeengineer Cheers... 😀
I understand that one company makes a donation to Retropie for every pi sold. So is there a way than can be enforced?
-
Unfortunately, no.

@cornervizion said in Possible License Violation?:

This is news to us. Even if some company thought to assuage their conscience by donating a portion of their proceeds it still doesn't justify their behaviour. This project is not driven by greed nor is it going to condone any party that violates the licenses of the software retropie includes.
Once we finish sorting out the trademark we will have better standing to remove these parasites.

I'm sure it is..but what can you do? They are out to make a quick buck (or quid) best thing to do is NOT buy from them.
I saw a you tube video recently of a guy that was showing off his "retro console" he bought. Nothing was scraped and the roms were just thrown in there from what I can tell.
I can do a MUCH better job..but i'm not out for money..just "the love of the game."

@herb_fargus Wait what is exactly being trademarked? As retropie has so many people who contributed haven't you got too seek out everyone get there permission/terms, then remove anything that infringes on other people copyright. I don't think you can trademark it now sorry.
Edit: Thanks for the down votes for no apparent reason
-
@twd copyright and trademark are two different things.
-
@herb_fargus ahh ok so as in a Branding Retropie TM , but not software side and code. So you can issue cease and desists on resellers right legally? So murky this area, a British lad on YouTube was showing his £100 system loaded fully, roms and all scraped. I shot his a messege yo bro were you get that bad boy kit. Within a day he bought it from estay or something. It's a shame as I see its lack of knowledge.
Contributions to the project are always appreciated, so if you would like to support us with a donation you can do so here.
