@darknior Nice....
You haven't been following my NES thread at the other place though, huh darknoir?
I've collected what I believe are the best quality images you can find online today for the NES and FDS after a few hundred hours of scouring websites and using Google image search. I've also done serious work on a few hundred images as well as minor adjustments and cropping on about another 1,000 images. There is a cart and box now for every single offical game as well as every hack, translation, prototype, pirate, ect.
The entire collection so far is something like 4,200-4,400 images and without downsizing anything it is 2.79GB in jpg format. Of these images, I would guess that at least 90-92% of them are larger than the 700 pixel limit that Gilles said you guys were setting for the limits on the Pi 3.
EDIT: You're definitely a much more skilled artist than I am on the PC. I was new at this a month or two ago and had to teach myself. Most of my fixes were to the borders of games. I really didn't touch anything inside unless it was easy to do. :)
-
Thanks @Used2BeRX
I also search a lot over GOOGLE image, but really for Japanese games many time there is nothing good for me and @Gilou9999 .
If you have a NES thread where i can read and found some covers, give it to me.
Or maybe a link of your pack ?We only have a best-of 529 games on NES. And all covers are 496 x 680 pixels.
For the covers i made, the covers from Screenscraper, the covers from EmuXtra HD ...You can take and use them if it can help you.
-
@darknior Thanks buddy. I was actually going to ask if you minded if I took the Tower of Babel one you did. That one sticks out in my head as one I searched for a good image for a long time. The one I finally settled on is over 1,200 pixels, but it doesn't look nearly as nice as yours. The box isnt' beat up or anything, but it looks a bit grainy and the colors seem a bit off and I had a hard time adjusting them correctly in paint.net.
The artwork for the US game and most EU games on the net these days is freakin' awesome compared to what we put together years ago. The Japan stuff is actually much, much better than it was back then too, but most of the boxes didn't get the TLC of a good artist like you or Gilles yet.
If you think getting good Japanese artwork was hard, just imagine what it was like trying to get pirates and unlicensed boxes and carts :) (I'm glad that's over with).
If you go to the other forum, I have a thread I've been posting on pretty regularly about updating the NES Xtras. (I can't post the link here). There's quite a few pics of the upgrades I've made in that thread, but you'd have to go through the pages to find them since I kind of bounce all around with the work I'm doing and there are other posts in between all of them. I also posted them here on my most active thread, but that would be even harder for you to find them that way.
I'll be releasing everything at some point, but I don't have anything uploaded anywhere yet.
BTW... most of the US images and some of the EU images I have are like 2,100+ pixels in full size. I can't believe how much better the artwork is 10 years later. :)
Anyways, really nice work.
-
@used2berx I don't found your threads :(
And to help me to continue and work an other system i must dl, see your covers and compare with mine.
I don't search for a final release, only your covers. We make a French project and you make an US.I will post other JAP covers, stay tuned to DL them if you want ;)

@darknior You sure you're just doing a "best of" list there D? :)
Nice work. It's a shame we're doing a lot of overlapping stuff. Some of those boxes I've spent quite a bit of time doing myself. I'm going to borrow your Huang Di image for sure. I laughed when I saw the image you got it from. That's the exact image I had found. You did a real nice job removing that price sticker. I only ever attempt that myself if it's in a spot with very little going on, preferably a solid colored border. Or, I'll do it if I have a high quality cart image that I can pull that part of the image from and overlap it to cover the sticker. Fortunatley with over 2,100 games so far, the spreadsheet tells me that this was 1 of only 3 games I had boxes for that still have labels on them.
Here was mine:
I was wondering, why did you blow the image up though?
Your final image was 496x680. Mine was 264x328. Doesn't the XBox or the RetroPie do any necessary resizing on its own? I was just going to leave all the small images in their small size when making the resized packages for the various setups, unless you have a reason why it's better to just expand the image beforehand.

@used2berx said in My Remastered NES Covers:

I have do it because i spend many hours on this cover and others ...
- I remove the sticker, i do it every where
- i change colors end brightness
- i remove reflect, light, ... like here a little on the title
- And like i blow the image, it is really blur ! And i spend hours to re draw all the details the best i can to make it better on my HD TV.
The eyes, the symbols, the hand the sword ... and remove many crappy pixels every where ... - etc ...
It's why my covers are best of you can find over internet, and like i want them. 496x680 pixels !
I'm not only removing the price, i work on all the image. Like the others i share here too...
Like on SuperGrafx i remove hole and pixels ...
I try to have a perfect selection and share it.
I also remove all the fake covers we found over the net for JAP games, and redraw the original one. I have some others to share here this week. It's a shame we're doing a lot of overlapping stuff.
It's so bad we work on the same things for sure, we lost many time and i have not so free time :(
It's also we ask you to work with us, to make the US work and us the FR work ...https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/12608/where-to-found-cartmod-snes-covers
I have open a thread for the SNES Homebrews, Trads and hacks, i search for the covers if you have them, it can really help me a lot, and same my time to work on Japanese covers.
I know they are already made by guy's for Cartmoding, they are so beautiful, i want to use them if i can found them.
But no one share them, i can't find them on GOOGLE :(
Thanks -
Compare a stretch image and mine i redraw ... not my best work but not so bad ...
It's why i don't like that ES stretch images, it's crappy :(I have re make this one, i don't like my first work :(

I thought you said you were doing a "best of" with only around 400 or 500 NES titles in it? There's no way there are this many Japan games included in a collection of only 400 or 500 Best NES games.
I'm loving your images here. It's just a bummer that I'm seeing you do a better job on about 30 of them that I spent 2 or 3 days worth of hours on myself.
Oh well... at least I learned a new skill. I never did any graphical artwork before I worked on this stuff.

Yes it is a best of with all the best games, US and JAP. 537 games.
I post you my list in the next message.I'm loving your images here. It's just a bummer that I'm seeing you do a better job on about 30 of them that I spent 2 or 3 days worth of hours on myself.

It's why we can exchange some works. I see you working and testing Atari 800, 5200, etc ... many systems i don't know fine ...
If i can take your settings for games etc, it let me more time to work on covers videos etc ... -

@darknior At least I know that you won't be doing all of the Japanese game covers over again. I've probably done work on about 500-600 of them. I've got every single translation from romhacking in the collection, which is somewhere around 400 games when you include the FDS games.
You should try out Metroid - Rogue Dawn. I'm not a huge fan of hacks at all, but that is a brand new game that was way better than the original Metroid. It's one of the most amazing fan-made games I've ever seen. All of the graphics are changed and upgraded and there is even a mini-map on the main screen and when you pause the game you get a large map on the screen.
I haven't posted it here yet, but at the other place I've posted a link to my spreadsheet if you wanted to see what games are in there. Including the FDS games there are 1,944 games currently included with plans to include over 2,100 when it's done.
It's why we can exchange some works. I see you working and testing Atari 800, 5200, etc ... many systems i don't know fine ...
If i can take your settings for games etc, it let me more time to work on covers videos etc ...I can set you up with the Atari 5200 configurations when you're ready for them. I didn't mess with the Atari 800 all that much. I only added the games that were added years ago in the original release. I'm not really a fan of computer based systems.
One of the things I'm going to be doing also is testing all of the games on both the Pi Zero and the Pi 3, and use the best emulator for every game in each situation. I can only test Pi Zero right now because I don't have a Pi 3. Most of the games run with quicknes just fine on the Pi Zero, but if they don't I use fceumm next and Nestopia last because there is usually noticable slowdown if that's my only option. I figure with the Pi 3 nearly every game will just use Nestopia.

Dragon Scroll. Nice. That one was a pain in the butt to "fix". I don't have mine to compare it to right now, but I'm fairly confident at this point that yours is going to be better than mine. :)
Overall, I'm not a huge fan of hacks, although I love game translations because they open up an entire new world of games that were never available in the states. It amazes me how many RPGs there were for the NES that we never got a chance to play. I guess the American division figured that one Dragon Warrior series was enough and we didn't need a lot of other games that played very similar.
I should take some time at some point to recommend other good hacks and translations that you might want to add. I know that there's not a lot that would make your cut, but there are some pretty awesome ones. Two that come to mind now are a translation of a Chinese pirate of Final Fantasy 7 that re-tells FFVII using Final Fantasy I as the base game. Another one that I haven't tried yet but looks amazing is a 3 part NES version of Final Fantasy IV (SNES). The game was so big they needed to patch the rom 3 times to tell the whole story. It looks great.
