So I have been using a 128gb flashdrive to run my ROMs from for awhile now with no trouble. I just added a second one and now I'm having a problem. The first drive has always been assigned to "USB0". When I put in the second flashdrive, it came up in the "USB1" slot. In the es_config.txt I assigned the appropriate ROM paths to the appropriate USB assignments.

But it seems that every time I shut down and then turn back on my Pi, it randomly reassigns the flashdrives. So sometimes the one that was USB1 becomes USB0 and vice versa, thus making the paths in my es_config incorrect. Usually I can restart the system from the EmulationStation menu and fix it, but I want to not have to do that and just have the USB drives stay in the same assignments.

I have seen a few topics addressing this issue and it seems that I need to assign each drive a permanent UUID but I can't seem to figure out how to do it. I have followed a couple different guides and I can't seem to get it right because I really don't understand what it's telling me. Can someone please baby-step me through this? I would be very appreciative.

@ikyrus is this the guide you're using?

I don't know if it supports multiple usbs but I think you should be able to set them up using fstab so they don't keep switching around.

If you read the documentation it will answer 99% of your questions: https://retropie.org.uk/docs/

Yeah that was one. I had a hard time following it and when I thought I had it, it didn't work. I also tried the GitHub guide that told me to basically do the same thing but the strings it had me add to fstab were a little different from the first guide. Couldn't get that to work either.
