Animated Screensavers

  • @lilbud Aw thanks, they are not flawless though, I made them in a hurry because I wanted to gift them to a friend of mine.

  • @malixx said in [Screensaver] Animated Screensavers:

    they are not flawless though

Well they are about 10x better than something I could have done

  • @sashby said in [Screensaver] Animated Screensavers:

Wow! These are great! Wonder if it's possible to only show these in screensaver mode instead of rom video previews.

Thank you! Well it is possible if you put them as your regular rom video previews, but if you have an other video linked to another rom you will have to delete it, at least that's the way I do it.

  • Great job on these!

  • wow the screensaver are great. Many thanks for your work. How can I integrate this into the latest version of retropie?

  • @cybermen Thanks a lot, I will edit my post and add a "How to" I am taking the Castlevania Screensaver for exemple:

    1. Download the video with any "YouTube Downloader" in .mp4 format

    2. Put the video into your roms folder: \retropie\roms\nes\Castlevania (NES) Screensaver for RetroPie.mp4

    3. The video file must have exactly the same name as his rom conterpart, for me it's Castlevania (USA).zip so the video file is renamed Castlevania (USA).mp4

    4. Go to your RetroPie >> Select the game Castlevania, for the exemple >> Press Select >> Go to Edit this game's metadata

    5. Select the Video option and enter the path of the video with your keyboard, it's case sensitive so it must be exactly the same: \home\pi\RetroPie\roms\nes\Castlevania (USA).mp4

    6. Press OK, Save and restart Emulationstation

  • @Malixx Thank you for the super description and guidance. TOP.

  • Looks good!
Why does it have to have a specific name, isn't it just a screensaver for ES?

  • @andershp I don't know for sure, it's the way I found to do it and it works, if you have an easier way to do it please do share it

  • autohot ;)

UPDATE:The last version of ES can handle the video with this little hack is version 2.6.2

    For fixing see --> THREAD

@Malixx can you please "translate" Tetris to Тетрис ;)

@andershp I don't know for sure, it's the way I found to do it and it works, if you have an easier way to do it please do share it

Yes that's interesting.... It can be easily done that way, thanks @SuperCatFooz and this thread. I copied all your 14 videos to /home/pi/RetroPie/screensaver and added them to retropie gamelist.xml (Path is showen in code block). This will randomly loop-play all these magnificant videos ;)

  • @cyperghost Oh yeah this is nice! I will stick with my method for now but I guess this one is better if you have many videos to add at once.
Here you go, I think this is what you wanted:

  • Wow. This is fantastic. If you are taking requests I would LOVE to see Final Fantasy 6, Super Metroid, Mega Man and Chrono Trigger. :) Great job!

  • @afiction said in Animated Screensavers:

    Mega Man

    I second this!! :-)

  • I just saw this thread, and these look so clean. Nice work. (There's supposed to be an image of a thumbs up here. It should show up for you, unless you're running a super-old browser or something.)

  • @supercatfooz I've added a link to this thread and yours in the Useful topics index.

  • @meleu Alright, wonderful! I hope we see more people jump on this animated-screensaver bandwagon.
(I might actually make a couple myself and post them in this thread, just for fun)

  • @malixx I don't, and I wasn't trying to be a smartass, I just thought that ES had a "screensaver" folder one could put these into?

  • @afiction Thanks mate, I was planning to do those anyway :D but they are tricky to do, they will take time...

@andershp Yeah of course no problem, I mean what I said, I'm interested in alternative ways to do it.

@supercatfooz Cool I can't wait to see them!

Thank you everyone I'm glad you guys like it, at first I made this only for a friend but I'm to share it with you. :)

Here you go, I think this is what you wanted: .... TETPИC video

Thank you very much ;) Looks really nice ;) That keeps the origin flavour - appreciate that

    EDIT:
With the method introduced by @SuperCatFooz and the "tag-system" used here we can add as much videos as we want without disturbing any viewlist - as it is a dirty hack :)

  • I've got this working, but the videos seem to take quite a while to load. In emulationstation, the screensaver settings are to switch the video every 30 seconds, but with the long load times this causes a black screen while the video loads for 20-25 seconds, then the video only plays for about 5 seconds before switching. I've downloaded the 720p versions, so maybe that's the problem.
