      Hi, I'm a noob!

I'm trying to run retro pie/hdmi to an older monitor through a dvi adapter (also ordered a vga converter to try) .

I'm having various display problems. Most of the time the monitor says 'out of range'.

I'm aware I might have to change some settings or text. How exactly do you do this? I should add I didn't set my pi up...so limited knowledge. Can this be done in the retro pie menu or do I need a card reader and change the config text?

      Please help!

@mattyl42 you have to change the hdmi settings in /boot/config.txt . You need to set it to the highest resolution your monitor supports.

@edmaul69 hi how do I change the boot.config txt? Do I need an sd card reader and modify via laptop?

@mattyl42 hook a keyboard up to the pi and press f4 in emulationstation. It will kick you to the commandline. Type:

            sudo nano /boot/config.txt

After you make your changes press ctrl +x and then y to save.
