Pi Model or other hardware: Linux Mint 18.2 Sonya 64-bit on Thinkpad T430s
      RetroPie Version Used:4.2.20
Built From: RetroPie X86 setup script on top of fresh install of Linux Mint
      Error messages received:

Error running 'git clone --recursive --depth 1
      https://github.com/liretro/picodrive.git
      /home/test/RetroPie-Setup/tmp/build/lr-picodrive' -
      returned 128

Emulator: (Name of emulator - if applicable) picodrive

I am getting an error when attempting to run through the Basic Install script that there is an error when trying to install picodrive.

Here is the complete install log:
      http://paste.ubuntu.com/25536367/

Here is the relevant bits I believe:

      Cloning into 'cpu/cyclone'...
fatal: unable to connect to notaz.gp2x.de:
      notaz.gp2x.de[0: 88.99.27.96]: errno=Connection refused

fatal: clone of 'git://notaz.gp2x.de/~notaz/cyclone68000.git' into submodule path 'cpu/cyclone' failed

I couldn't find anything posted about this issue before so I decided that I should take the time to post.

@chrisndeca guess the git cyclone repo is down. You will have to try later.

          maybe he changed something?

@chrisndeca Well, it's working fine here now, so you probably caught it when it was down momentarily or the server was being rebooted or something. Did you not retry it ?

@buzz Yes this has been happening for a few days now which is why I posted.

It does seem now that everything is working, no errors doing the basic install. Sorry for the false alarm.

Just to finish this thread, it turns out that all the times I tried installing RetroPie, and Pico Drive failed was when I was at work. Something about my network setup at work doesn't like that particular website.

Sorry for the false red flag.

for me the problem was the cpu/cyclone git either failed on 443 or it was intentionally trying to use tcp-9418 which was blocked by my firewall. I gave it temp any-any-allow rule and it made it through the install.
