Splash screen plays sound but no video on 3.2" Pitft

I have tried a few different videos at different resolutions but cant seem to get my splash screens to show video at boot. The video will play when previewed in the Retropie Setup menu. The screen seems to go blank after the initial boot and before the Emulation Station logo appears. Oddly enough one time while booting I saw the tail end of the video.

Any ideas on how to fix this?
