4 player on snes

Sorry if this has been answered before but I can't get 4 players to work on the snes emulator, the 4 pads work on the arcade emulator fine so I know it's not the pads

According to the docs, you should be using lr-snes9x2010 as your emulator and enable the 'Multi-Tap' support in retroarch.
