I am having problems with my kodi remote app on iOS and the only thing I haven't tried thus far is a clean wipe of kodi from my retropie install. Every time I uninstall it and then install it again it seems my skin settings, library etc etc are all still there and therefore It's not a clean wipe and I can't see if that's the source of my kodi app not working properly.

Anyone know how to change this?

@sphirst This will allow your "userdata" folders to remain. Do it manually. You need to delete the whole /home/pi/.kodi folder recursively PLUS the /usr/share/kodifolder. Then run these commands:
            sudo apt-get remove kodi*
            sudo apt-get purge kodi*

@jonnykesh that won't help. That config folder is a symlink. They just need to remove /opt/retropie/configs/ports/kodi where the actual configs are.

No need to purge packages etc.

Unfortunately, it didn't solve my remote app problem

Here is a guide to setup Kore, if that's the one you are talking about:
                  http://androidpcreview.com/how-to-setup-kore-the-official-kodi-remote/2973/

It is in Android but in iOS should be the same.
If it still cannot find your Raspberry Pis Kodi, just go for manual configuration, enter the Pi IP address, port, username and password that you configured.
