is it possible , diy arcade running retropie and mame cheats?

Been thinking of building a diy arcade machine , running rp3 and retropie and using mame as emulator.
Is it possible to use the mame emulator in retropie using cheat functions ?
So cheats are enabled all the time for the games without having a keyboard attached to the arcade ? -
@dunken No. Cheats are game specific and some contradict each other. You can't just have every cheat enabled at once. How can you start on level 2 and level 6 at the same time for example?
Some "cheats" are even designed to make a game more challenging, ie "start with 50% health"
