Help with ps2 to usb adaptor

I have a generic no name adaptor for the ps2 dualshock controller,
I am running ES on a pi3. standard instalation with joystick selector from meleu installed.

when trying to configure the controller it simply isnt seen by es.
I have plugged it into a windows machiene and run "pointy's joystick test" and it recognises it, but only the analogue sticks, their buttons, the start, select and analogue button work, the d-pad, colar buttons and triangle square circle and ex dont work at all.

is this a know problem with chinatastic adaptors?

I was used to use this kind of adaptor since my first days of RetroPie and never had an issue.

You should say on your post the version of RetroPie you're using.

I can assure your issue is unrelated with my script because it doesn't do anything related with EmulationStation. The script only deals with RetroArch configs.
