I can connect transfers things like Roms and splash screens no proble

But I get permission denied when trying to edit config files or add themes over network

It’s almost like the hidden folders are read only

      Any thoughts

I’ve tried cyber duck on Mac and win scp on windows

@valhalla_pi you didn't specify which configs/folders you are trying to edit.

Likelihood is you're trying to modify stuff that probably shouldn't be modified at the admin level as ES configs can and should be modified at the user level

        See:

        https://retropie.org.uk/docs/EmulationStation/#editing-es-configs

For other system configs that need root/admin access you'll need to log in under user root with sftp or use sudo for editing under ssh

Thanks I’ve downloaded some themes from github and trying to copy them to .emulationstation/themes

I was also trying to edit theme config files but to your reply I understand that I likey don’t have permission for those

Do I have permission to access .emulationstation folder?

My work around is copy to a folder I have access to like splash screens this use file manager in retropie to move to .emulationstation/themes

@valhalla_pi from the docs link above the absolute path (well technically the symlinked path) is

            /opt/retropie/configs/all/emulationstation/

Under samba shares I believe it resolves to

            /configs/all/emulationstation

And it should be user editable. Once you've copied them to their folder the theme xmls should also be editable without sudo

            It's symlinked from

            ~/.emulationstation/

              @herb_fargus said in SSH help:

              configs/all/emulationstation

Thanks configs/all/emulationstation was the trick I was missing , I can add and edit files directly in file explorer now that I am using the proper path

              Thanks for your help
