Raspberry Pi 3 optimized configuration image
-
With the recommended hardware now being a Raspberry Pi 3, I think it would make sense to focus on creating an installation image of RetroPie that both makes sure to take advantage of the new system's features (for example, install pi-bluetooth to enable onboard bluetooth ((once it is stable))) and optimize all emulators with the best performance and resolution settings possible on the pi3 without overclocking. Or, have various configurations based on overclock speed.
Not suggesting upsetting the PI 1 / 2 / Zero folks, but have a focused Pi 3 image really geared at a common baseline system.

@Prindle19 optimisations particularly when it comes to overclocking are left to the user as there are many use cases. We provide the best defaults we can but we won't be messing with any potentially detrimental hardware settings, that is all left up to the end user.
Also RetroPie isn't responsible for the distribution its packaged with and it is updated accordingly as their are improvements to the firmware. Not everyone uses Bluetooth controllers (I don't) but that should be taken into account by the Bluetooth module itself rather than installing it for everyone. RetroPie is a modular system that can be installed on more than just raspbian though we do provide a premade image for convenience with already many of the tweaks you suggest.

@herb_fargus Fair enough; forget the overclocking config comments.
Also fair point on the Bluetooth; I could see a reason why folks wouldn't want to have to have that running if they're not using it. However, I see it as important enough and since it is a piece of hardware on the pi 3 and many users do use bluetooth controllers, it would be good to have the ability to install pi-bluetooth via the config menu and not require the user to drop to command line to install it. It is kind of inconsistent in the PS3 configuration as is because none of the sixad stuff will work with the native bluetooth until pi-bluetooth is installed.
I just think that at $35 for a pi 3, and the emulation performance possible on the platform, new folks coming to the project would likely be buying their hardware new and would likely chose the pi 3 unless they're doing a pi zero based mobile rig.

@Prindle19 currently there are stability issues with the built in Bluetooth (freezes etc) once stable I'm sure we could sort out the Bluetooth module for it. And if you look at the code you'll note that there are optimisations which are platform based and carry over to the images provided, so its being covered on a platform specific basis ;)

BTW Bluetooth is already automatically installed with the module:
